Introduction

Human Resource is an important business discipline and it has a strategic


significance.Rather than people were being considered another machine,humans
are most important resource of business so that managing people is a vital role in
business.
Performance appraisal is an important aspect of human resource management
that helps management to measure and appraise the employees in order to
achieve organizational goals.

Literature Review

“Performance Appraisal System”


Performance appraisal has a brief history starting from earth 20th century where
the need of it was felt and some measures were developed as in Jabeen 2011
noted that performance appraisal is the process of
identifying,observing,measuring and developing HR in the organization.
According to scott 2009 define that performance appraisal is the measurement of
work and its results by using scale and index that we can measure the desired
quantity and quality with precision and free of personal judgement and vague
criteria.

Performance Appraisal and Employee Motivation;


Motivation can be
shown as internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people
to be interested and having continual effort in attaining goal.Motivation results
from such factors;

a)Intensity of Desire
b)Incentive or Reward
c)Expectations of Individuals

Performance Appraisal provides important point for the employee to consider


motivational and development issues by providing positive feedback,recognition
and opportunities for growth.

Performance Appraisal Satisfaction and Work Performance;


Work
performance is the action or behavior that is relevant to achieving organizational
goals.HR practices are expected to influence both organizations and employees
performance via selective and opportunity to contributed.
Performance Appraisal and Employee Commitment;
It is an attitude reflecting employees loyalty to their organization and is an on-
going process through which organizational participants express their concern for
organization and its continued success.

“Hypothesis”

H1:Employee Motivation
There is a significant relationship between performance appraisal satisfaction and
employee motivation.

H2:Work Performance
There is a significant relationship between performance appraisal satisfaction and
work performance.

H3:Employee Commitment
There is a significant relationship between performance appraisal satisfaction and
employee commitment.

“Methodology”
 Data collected by simple random sampling
 Each questionare contained 36 questions
 110 employee taken out of 900 from 5 departments
 Quantitative method was used to analyze data
 Linkert scale was included to measure relationships
“Results/Conclusion”
Resercher selected BOC(Bank of Ceylon) Head office to conduct research.The
Questionare was developed to gather information and selected 110 employees as
sample which covered clerical,executive officers and managerial level employees.

According to Analysis there is a significant relationship between performance


appraisal satisfaction and the employees outcomes in the form of employee’s
motivation,work performance and commitment and it is a weak positive
relationship.
So, performance appraisal satisfaction helps to obtain positive employee
outcomes in the form of emplyee’s motivation,work performance and
commitment.
So, in order to obtain such positive outcomes the organization should provide a
performance appraisal platform where employees must create satisfaction with
performance appraisal.
