Aadhaar holding in India increases to 93% from 90%

BENGALURU: As high as 93% of India i.e. 1.25 billion residents of India


have Aadhaar card as on date, said UIDAI. This shows an increase from
the 90% enrollment recorded in 2018.

Indians are also more keen on getting their Aadhaar details updated, said
UIDAI. The government agency said it recorded close to 331 crore
successful Aadhaar updates (biometric and demographic) till date. This
means that on an average about 3-4 lakh Aadhaar updates are processed
everyday. UIDAI officials said, the expected CAA-NRC rollout has resulted
in a spike in updates in recent weeks.

"The achievement comes along with the rapidly increasing use of Aadhaar as the primary identity document by the Aadhaar
holders," said UIDAI. Aadhaar has been used by authentication 37,000 crore times since inception of the scheme. On a per day
basis, UIDAI said it process nearly 3 crore authentication requests per day.

In order to serve the needs of the 1.25 crore Indians, UIDAI is further the enrollment and updation ecosystem. As part of the
Aadhaar Seva Kendra project in March 2019, UIDAI of 114 planned Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) across the country, 28 ASKs are
operational.

"These ASKs have the capacity to handle up to 1,000 service requests per day and are open on all 7 days. Residents can book

online appointment or walk-in to the centre for Aadhaar services. The Aadhaar Seva Kendras are in addition to the 35,000
Aadhaar Kendras operated by banks, post offices, BSNL and state government," said UIDAI.

UIDAI also launched a new version of the official Aadhaar mobile app – mAadhaar. This unified app offers over 35 Aadhaar
online services in a single app -- including the ability for citizens to add up to 3 Aadhaar profiles and use as identity proof at
airports, railways etc. About 35 lakh users use the mAadhaar app i.e. about 1% of the total Aadhaar base.
