CABIN 310-LITER CONSTANT FLOW OXYGEN BOTTLE

The purpose of these bottles is to provide first aid and supplemental oxygen for
passengers and working oxygen for cabin crew.
One oxygen bottle is provided for each cabin crew member and for each group of 50
passengers.
– 2 lit/min outlet (LO) ...................about 155 minutes
– 4 lit/min outlet (HI) ......................about 75 minutes

HALON HAND FIRE EXTINGUISHER

The extinguisher can be used against flammable liquid fire (Class B) and fires in
electrical equipment (Class C). It can also be used against Class A fires in their initial
stage but should, in such a case, always be followed up by the use of water extinguishant
After discharge of Halon extinguisher, avoid inhaling smoke, vapors and other by-
products of the fire by evacuating and/or ventilating the area.

WATER HAND FIRE EXTINGUISHER

The extinguisher contains water mixed with antifreeze.
By turning the handle, a CO2 cartridge located in the handle is discharged into the
cylinder. The water discharge lever, located at the top of the extinguisher, should be
depressed to actuate water discharge.
Water extinguishers are provided for use against fabric, carpet, seat cover, clothing fires,
etc.

AXE
The axe handle is electrically insulated to withstand 24000 volts.

EMERGENCY LOCATOR TRANSMITTER (ELT)

Emergency locator transmitters (ELT), transmit on 121.5/243/406 MHz, provide a signal
for search and rescue during a crash by transmitting distress signals simultaneously.
As standard requirement, each THAI aircraft is equipped with two ELT’s as follows:
– An Automatic Fixed (AF) ELT
An automatic fixed Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) is installed to help rescue
crews find aircraft which has landed away from an airport. The transmitter sends a radio
signal to satellites, other aircraft, or air traffic control facilities.
The automatic fixed ELT is designed to be permanently attached to the aircraft. It has an
acceleration sensor (G-switch) which will automatically transmit distress signals on 121.5
MHz,
243.0 MHz, and 406.028 MHz when a certain acceleration is applied to the unit (5g
approximately).
These signals will also be transmitted when the ELT switch is selected to ON.

– A Survival (S) ELT is a portable ELT that is intended to be removed from an aircraft
by survivors of a crash. One survival ELT model ELTA S06 is installed at station 4L.
Once the ELT is activated, it transmits a digital distress signal, 406 MHz, to satellites that
are part of the COSPAS-SARSAT SYSTEM. The information sent to the satellites
contained the message as follows:
ELT Identification number, Aircraft ID (or ELT serial number), Country code, Aircraft
type, Aircraft registration, Airline address, Airline telephone number and Alternate
telephone number.
These satellites will transmit the ELT’s signal to the ground control station. The ground
station processes the signals and forwards the data including approximate location to
rescuing authority.
ELT also transmits the standard swept tone on 121.5 and 243 MHz to be used for
rescuing authority to home in on the crash site.
The 406 MHz transmitter will operate for 24 hours and then shuts down automatically.
The 121.5/243 MHz transmitter will continue to operate until the unit has exhausted the
battery power which will be at 50- 60 hours.
“Emergency locator transmitter” may be addressed, in some countries, as “Beacon” or
“Radio beacon”.
LIMITATIONS
The ELT can be operated on land or water.
Operating life: 121.5/243 MHz 60 hours, 406 MHz 24 hours
Operating temperature: –20°C to +55°C.

PROTECTIVE BREATHING EQUIPMENT (PBE)

The PBE (smoke hood) is an emergency breathing device to enable a more efficient fire
fighting, e.g. in a lavatory. It shall be used in situation where breathing difficulty due to
smoke and gas would make it impossible to approach the fire. The PBE consists of an
oxygen supply generator, a chemical scrubber and a loose-fitting hood with a head
harness.
When actuated, the generator produces oxygen for 15 min. The oxygen is supplied into
the hood and the breathing gas from the user is recirculated through the scrubber which
removes carbon dioxide and water vapor
Caution
The sound of airflow within the hood signifies normal operation. The unit must not be
used unless this sound is evident.
The unit should also be removed within 2 to 3 min after the completion of its normal
cycle indicated by cessation of this airflow noise
