II. MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

Whenever the mother is pregnant, she submits to pre-natal check-up, she was
not able to recall when exactly was her last but verbalized it was at her third
trimester. The mother goes to rural health unit for consultation. She calls the doctor
for delivery of her baby. She brings her child to comply to full immunization. She
brought her healthy pre-school for check-up and attends mother’s class.

III.NUTRITION

Table 3. Food usually included in the family diet

GO GROW GLOW
Rice, Bread, Corn, Potato Salted dried fish, Fish, Carrots, Banana, Squash,
Chicken Orange, Tomatoes
The mother practices breastfeeding to feed her 0-2 years old children. She
would start giving supplementary foods 5 months onwards. These foods
supplemented are; chopped potatoes, rice and fish.

IV. FAMILY PLANNING

The mother is in favor of family planning and verbalized she practices family
planning. She uses an implant as family planning method after she had realized on
her last pregnancy that she has enough children that she wants, and have more than
3

she could sustain. She is willing to disseminate information to her neighbors on the
need to use family planning methods, also to her friends and relatives if the need

arises. The mother verbalized that she goes for family planning check-up for her
implant as for when it is, we were not able to ask furthermore.

V. COMMUNITY

The client’s family do not participate in community meeting or social activity.

They do not belong in any organization in the community for the reason they simply
do not like to engage on issues and drama interacting may bring to them. The client’s
family do not have any source of communication except personal meeting with the
one they want to communicate.

VI. ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION

The client’s family’s housing premises is unsatisfactory since their home is small
and made out of light materials like wood, bamboo, and plywood. Their drainage is
open and they perform human excreta disposal using their neighbor’s comfort room.
They do not have garbage containers and directly dispose their garbage by burning.
Their water supply is piped and transport water using bottles that has a cover. They
store their water using covered plastic containers.

COMMENTS/ OBSERVATIONS NOTED UPON INTERVIEW

On our home visit, as we conducted our interview, we observed that the children
have poor hygiene as evidenced by dust in their faces and in their arms. The 4-year-
old boy named Jun Loid was coughing upon our first visit. The client was inconsistent
with her answers regarding the birthdates of her children. They have inadequate
living space and was not enough to accommodate us inside the house. There was
stagnant water observable in the surrounding in which can be a possible breeding
site for vectors of diseases. There were coconut trees around the house. Rocky floor
of the beach could be accident hazard. They do not have any form of technology,
they rely on candle light every night.
