CHAPTER II

Foreign Literature
Good teacher equals good students, bad teacher equals bad students. Teacher who don’t
care about the feelings of their students is just an annoying person for them. Good teacher
teaches from the heart and gives attention to their students feeling. A teacher who has high
position give you examples to be more detailed and to be better to understood. A teacher who is
really dedicate in teaching and sacrifices certain things, inspires the students to study hard and
pursue their dreams. “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior
teacher demonstrate. The great teacher inspires. “ William Arthur Ward (1989)

Students won’t learn from someone but will listen to someone who understands them.
“You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him find it within himself.” Galileo
Galilei (1879). A book that demonstrate and explains of how growing up is great, this book
explains it in a polite manner to be understood by the kids. Starting with the chapter called
“so-ooo many questions!“ where kids are encourage to be inquisitive, this book works its way
through all the big topics: how boys and girls are the same and different, what their bodies look
like, what happens to girls and boys as their grow, how sperm and eggs are made, how the baby
grows and lives in the womb, all the kinds of families the baby can part of (parents, step parents,
foster parents) what touches are “ okay and not okay” and why growing up is great. This book
enlightened us that life has a lot to offer for us. “It’s not the Stork” written by Harris (2006).

Sometimes the hard times of the student in learning is the one who is teaching them. The
different teaching styles of teachers has a lot of impact for the students. “Learning is a gift. Even
when pain is your teacher” Maya Watsons (1988). It is for the teachers to works from the
student’s strengths and interests by finding out why students are in your class and what are their
expectations. Therefore, it is important to take consideration student’s needs and interest so ask
to focus instruction that is applicable to different groups of students with different levels. Brock
(1976), Caskin (179) and Lucas (1990).
Local Literature
Helping students understand better in the classroom is one of the primary concern of every
teacher. According to the Phil Schlecty (1994), students who understand the lesson tend to be
more engaged and show different characteristics such as they are attracted to do work, persist in
the work despite challenges and obstacles and take visible delight in accomplishing their work.
In developing student’s understanding to learn important concepts, teacher may use variety of
teaching styles that would work best for his/her students. According to Raymond
Cruz and Margery Ginsberg (1995), research has shown no teaching style that will consistenly
engage all learners. The key is helping students relate lesson content to their own backgrounds
which would include student’s prior knowledge in understanding new concepts. Due recognition
should be given to the fact of interest, according to Saucier (1989) directly or indirectly
contributes to all learning. Yet, it appears that many teaches apparently still need to accept this
fundamental principle.

Furthermore teachers need to vary teaching styles and techniques so as not to cause
boredom to the students in the classroom. Seeking greater insight into how children learn from
the way teachers discuss and handle the lesson in the classroom and teach students the life skills
they need, could be one of the greatest achievements in the teaching process. The study of
learning styles has been growing educational trend, and it is believed that matching the learning
styles of students with the mode of instruction actually aids students learning. This is what
literature calls as the “meshing hypothesis” (Pashler, et.al., 2009). In the same article, it
attributed the phenomenon of two hypothesis into two reasons: first is the rise of type-based
assessment (e.g., Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and the other reason is the belief that schools can
be held accountable for the education they give in live of individualizing “personalizing”
educational process in favour of the students.
