Message
Each year, when the time for the MARHO Cup Championships rolls around, I am always
amazed at how far this event has come, how big it has grown, and how much status it has acquired
as a premier sporting event.
This event began as a simple idea born from the brainstorming of MARHO president emeritus
Aristeo “Putch” Puyat and myself way back in 1996. Putch and I are both horseowners and breeders,
and at the time we sought a way to promote breeding as an activity among horseowners.
There weren’t a lot of us breeders at the time, and there were many obstacles and challenges to
setting up our breeding operations. Yet we stuck it out, doing our best to upgrade local bloodstock
by importing horses of quality lineages from abroad, investing what we could in order to bring to
this country the best and most successful bloodlines from international racing.
And now, it has been fifteen years since the first time Putch and I stood on a makeshift stage at
the old Santa Ana Park in Makati City and handed out trophies. Time does fly when you’re having
fun!
I am amazed – and filled with pride and happiness for work well done, and with profoundest
gratitude for the outpouring of support from the racing community and sponsors each year.
MARHO’s annual staging of the championships since 1996 is made possible by the presence of
reliable and loyal sponsors, to whom we extend our thanks – San Miguel Corporation, Philippine
Racing Commission, and Philippine Racing Club.
We are also grateful for the participation once more of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes
Office, Hygain Feeds, and the Ciara Marie Foundation.
Despite the economic crisis, these are exciting times for the sport, and for us breeders and
horseowners, the challenge remains to push the envelope further, erase boundaries, and set the
standards even higher as we seek to breed horses that are stronger, faster, better.
MARHO Cup Kinse - has it been that long? We feel we’ve only begun. There is still much to do,
and we look forward to the future with high hopes.
Celebrate horseracing with us this MARHO Cup week as we once more showcase the best
Philippine-bred horses in six championship races, and quality local, island-born, and imports in
over forty trophy races.
Come, the horses are at the gate!

MESSAGE
Welcome, participants, sponsors, guests, and racing fans, to MARHO Kinse: the fifteenth
running of the MARHO Cup Championships.
Over the years, the event has gone from strength to strength and is now the premier racing
festival on the calendar. We know this would not have been possible without everyone’s support.
MARHO thanks its sponsors: San Miguel Corporation and its chairman and CEO, Eduardo M.
Cojuangco Jr., and its president Ramon S. Ang, for supporting the MARHO Cup Championships
since its inception in 1996, allowing the branding tie-up of SMC’s San Miguel Beer with this
flagship activity of the MARHO;
Philippine Racing Commission chairman Atty. Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas II and commissioners
Atty. Victor Tantoco, Dr. Reynaldo Fernando, Eduardo Domingo Jr., and James Irving Paman for
Philracom’s reliable assistance throughout the years, not only by way of this event but in other
matters related to the industry;
Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office chairman Margarita P. Juico for the PCSO’s kind
participation once more;
Philippine Racing Club president Solomon Cua and executive vice-president and COO Atty.
Ramon P. Ereñeta Jr. for making Santa Ana Park a welcoming venue for the MARHO races,
providing financial and logistical support as the MARHO’s home track;
Past MARHO president, Mayor Benhur Abalos, for his staunch and loyal dedication to MARHO
by way of entering in the races and giving sponsorship for two trophy races via his Hygain Feeds
and the Ciara Marie Foundation;
And to our other sponsors and participants, our deepest gratitude for helping us make the
staging of the MARHO Cup Races this year a reality.
Last September, MARHO held its election of officers and I was honored by the membership by
being chosen to serve MARHO once more, formerly as its executive vice-president and now as its
new president. I pledge to uphold MARHO’s traditions, first and foremost of which is the never-
ending vigilance on industry matters, always seeking the best for the collective good of racing
community.
Friends, we hope you enjoy this year’s MARHO Cup races, and may good fortune and blessings
be ours to share.

Message
Welcome, everyone, to the 15th MARHO Cup Championships, a most significant occasion in
the history of the MARHO.
When this program was launched as the MARHO Breeders’ Cup in 1996 during my term as
MARHO president, little did I know what a huge event it would eventually become. I had hoped
for this, of course, and realized it had the potential to expand, yet the reality of how enormous it is
now still fills me with mixed emotions of wonder, pleasure, and pride.
Yet it is also with humility that I reflect upon how successful the MARHO Cup program is now.
It is only with the support of kind-hearted sponsors that the event can offer, yearly, generous prize
money as incentives for owners and breeders of local-bred horses via the six championship races.
It is with the enthusiastic participation of horseowners and the tireless assistance of the racing
club that the races are formed and conducted. My thanks to all of you for your support of and trust
in MARHO all these years.
Apart from incentivizing local breeding, MARHO also encourages the further development
of local Philippine bloodstock through importation by organizing trophy races that imports and
island-born horses may join.
In this integrative manner, MARHO does its share to promote and uplift the allied activities of
horseracing and Thoroughbred breeding.
This year, please join us as we bring you once again the best of Philippine racing, as we celebrate
our mutual enjoyment of the sport through the MARHO Kinse event.

MESSAGE
Warmest greetings to the Metropolitan Association of Race Horse Owners (MARHO) on your
staging of the 2010 MARHO Cup Championships.
Acknowledged the centerpiece event of the country’s horseracing and breeding industry since
its inception in 1996, this festival showcases the best thoroughbred horses in the country.
As your founding chairman, I am truly glad that you have continued our thrust to provide
support for the needs of horseowners and breeders in the industry. Indeed, your association has
grown by leaps and bounds since we pushed in 1974 for the creation of a specialized group that
would support the growing sport of horseracing.
As a long-time horse breeder and a horseracing aficionado myself, I am happy that we have
organizations like the MARHO in the Philippines that would assist horseowners and breeders and
promote the sport in the country.
Mabuhay and more power to all of you!

MESSAGE

Cordial greetings to the Metropolitan Association of Race Horse Owners, Inc. (MARHO) as
you hold the 2010 MARHO Cup.
The MARHO Cup, now on its 15th year, has always been sponsored by San Miguel Corporation
ever since its inception. Aptly renamed as the San Miguel Beer-MARHO Cup, it will also have two
of the six championship races named after San Miguel as proof of this enduring partnership.
MARHO’s staging of the event through the years, with SMC’s support, has contributed much
to the improvement of the sport in terms of performance and track times as the generous prize
money gives incentives to horseowners and breeders to acquire quality bloodstock.
May you continue revitalizing the horse racing and breeding industry by giving annual awards
and recognition to champion horses, jockeys and trainers.
Best wishes to the directors and members of MARHO for another successful racing festival!

Message
The 15th edition of the MARHO Breeders’ Cup on November 23-28, 2010 is a much anticipated
event this year, coming as it does amidst challenging times for most sectors in general, and the
horseracing industry, in particular. Indeed, through all the peaks and troughs of the economic
backdrop for horseracing over the years, the MARHO Breeders’ Cup serves as a testament to the
enduring spirit of the sport of kings in this country.
As the host club of the MARHO Breeders’ Cup, the Philippine Racing Club, Incorporated is
heartened by this partnership with the organization that has seen fit to honor locally-bred and
home-grown equine talents of the tracks. Horse breeding in the country continues to flourish and
to produce new track stars owing mainly to the passion of Filipino horse owners and breeders for

Last year, the galloper of Rita
Pilapil was the top favorite in the Filly
Mile but lost to Nuclear Power in a
dramatic finish.
This time, Heaven Sent, to be ridden
by Rodeo Fernandez, will run with a
coupled entry, Joshua’s Laughter, to
be guided by John Paul Guce. Joshua’s
Laughter is expected to be the early
leader; but, if left unchecked, could
wind up with the crown instead.
But Fernandez knows his mount
by heart. After all, he had guided
Heaven Sent to wins in two Triple

Hermie Esguerra’s Go Army with
Jonathan Hernandez on the saddle
will provide the challenge.
Another former Triple Crown leg
winner, Shining Fame, is included
in the field. The entry of Antonio
