Close to 62 per cent of Manitoba’s population

lives in Winnipeg, an economically strong
and diverse metropolitan area.
With low costs for land and power (using 99% renewable energy from sustainable
hydroelectric generation), and some of the most affordable housing in Canada, Winnipeg is a place where
your dollar goes far. It is Canada’s most affordable city to do business in, and KPMG ranks the city No. 1
in cost-competitiveness in Western Canada and in all U.S. cities surveyed¹.

Winnipeg has the largest aerospace centre in Western Canada, and is home to advanced manufacturing
market leaders. Agribusiness has long nourished the city’s growth, due to its world-class agricultural
infrastructure. Life science initiatives make Winnipeg a remarkable hub of discovery, housing Canada’s
only Level 4 bio-containment laboratory and about 40 additional R&D institutions.

Flourishing industry sectors, geographic and time zone advantages, and transportation assets make Winnipeg
an exceptional draw for business. The city’s greatest strength, however, resides in its people, who retain

 APPLICATION PROCESS
1 Contact a Manitoba Technology Accelerator • Applicants may be individuals or in teams
(MTA) designate and request the SUV Program
Package. View contact information at www.
mbtechaccelerator.com/suv-program2
2 Once your business plan and application are
received, an MTA designate will review to
determine whether your company is a proper
fit for MTA.
Note: application and processing can take 2 - 6 weeks,
depending on the information provided.
3 Upon acceptance into the SUV program,
MTA will send you a Letter of Support.
4 Once you’ve received your Letter of
Support, it is time to apply for your
work permit!
Most work permits take up to 8 weeks; however,
this is subject to change dependent on
government processing time.
5 MTA will help you prepare for your
move by providing a Welcome
Packet that includes information
about Winnipeg schools, hospitals,
neighbourhoods, real estate agents
and restaurants.
FEES
The monthly fee for this program is $2,500 for a one-person team.
If your team consists of two or more owners (up to 5 owners are permitted)
this fee will rise respective to the number of people on your team.
APPLICATION CRITERIA
not exceeding five owners.
• Applicants must have a qualifying business
to be accepted into the SUV Program through
Manitoba Technology Accelerator (MTA).
A qualifying business is one that is incorporated
either in the applicant’s own country, or one
that has completed the initial steps to
incorporate with the Government of Canada.
• Each applicant for the SUV Program must hold
10% or more of the voting rights attached to all
shares of the corporation outstanding at
the time of application (maximum 5 people as
owners). As well, applicants and the designated
organization must jointly hold more than 50
per cent of the total voting rights attached to
all shares of the corporation outstanding
at that time.
• All qualifying applicants must have funds
of a minimum $24,949 for a single-family
applicant. These funds, and anything higher,
will meet the 52-week period requirement for
single-family applications. Please contact
your MTA designate for more information
on how these numbers my affect you and
your family.
• Successful applications must meet the
language requirements set out by the
Government of Canada.

(MTA) is a non-profit business that provides
commercialization support to help promising
technology start-ups go from “good idea” to
“investable business.” We are Manitoba’s only
federally and provincially funded incubator.
