Bentley Geotechnical Analysis

“For today’s infrastructure demands, geotechnical considerations are coming to the forefront. As
infrastructure assets are crucially linked to subsurface environments, they are vulnerable to
geotechnical risk.

Bentley is proud to expand our portfolio, with the latest acquisitions.

3D Conceptual Modeling
 An average geotechnical
project requires integration of
many data sources
 A step often overlooked is
visualizing and compiling all
site data into a 3D conceptual
model
 Ensures utilization of all data
sources in design
 Integrated conceptual
modeling approach
improves geotechnical
design

Why?

Raft thickness changes if

the stiffness of the
superstructure is included
in the analysis

23 #YII2019 ©2019 Bentley Systems, Incorporated

Benefits

• One single model

• Structural engineers can transfer the model to Geotechnical
engineers
• Geotechnical engineers analyze deformations and stability including
the superstructure for better accuracy
• Geotech returns structural forces and spring constants to Structural
• Structural checks whether these new values match theirs and if not
springs can be recalculated
• Iterations as needed
• No manual data transfer prone to errors

How to Interoperate Between Products with ISM

1) Create ISM repository
from first application

4) View with ISM viewer.

2) Read ISM repository

into a second application

Application 1 Application 2
ISM Repository
3) Update ISM repository
(iModelHub)
from either application as
often as needed.

28 #YII2019 ©2019 Bentley Systems, Incorporated

14
Tracking Your Design History
2) Review the file design
history – who did what 3) Select two revision
and in what application 4) Review detailed
states to compare
changes between
two model states

1) Right click an ISM

repository in Windows
Explorer and select
‘Manage ISM Revisions’

Landslide Disaster Protection Project on the
National Road Network
Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia

Two months before the annual Indonesian Homecoming Festival in West Java, a
catastrophic landslide affected the main road between Bogor and Cianjur, worsening
the already terrible traffic situation. The Ministry of Public Works retained PT.
WIJAYA KARYA to provide an effective feasibility study while performing preventive
measures on the site. The estimated IDR 50 billion project was given a strict, tight
deadline of five months because the road is a main thoroughfare and traffic must
move continuously.
