Objectives;
Students will be able to;
● practice the name of the places
● practice the directions
● practice the use of can and can’t
● practice name of hobbies and activities
● relate the activities and the places
● write sentences about the activities that they can do

Greeting -5 minutes-
The teacher greets the classroom, asks how the students feel and informs the students that
they will play a game.

Pre-activity -15 minutes-


The teacher prepares Google Maps before the lesson starts. In Google Map, the teacher uses
Street View feature of it and opens the neighbourhood of Ziraat Mühendisleri Secondary
School. The teacher invites a student to the board and gives directions to him/her about where
to go. For instance, “Go straight ahead, turn left, what’s on your right?”, after the student
finds a place (e.g. mosque, mall, pharmacy etc.), the teacher thanks to the student and invites
another student to the board. The activity goes on like that. The aim of the activity is
practicing the name of the places and directions.

Main activity -15 minutes-


The teacher asks students to write two sentences about the things they can or can’t do in a
specific place on their notebooks. For example, I can run in parks, I can’t swim in swimming
pool and so on. Before the students start to write sentences, the teacher gives an example
sentence and grammar structure hint to help the students. When they start to write, the teacher
walks around the classroom and asks if anyone needs help or not. After approximately five
minutes, the teacher invites a student to the white board and asks to write the sentence down
to the board. The student chooses the next student and it goes on like that until the activity
ends.

Post-activity -5 minutes-
The teacher opens up a youtube video (a song related to use of can and can’t). The students
are familiar with this song because they had listened it before in the classroom. This is a way
of wrapping up the class. The students will repeat the use of can and can’t in a fun way. And,
the end of the lesson.

Homework
I put the link of homework below and I will distribute it to all the students and the teachers.
The aim of the homework is practicing the hobbies and activities’ names by using can and
can’t. In this way, the students will practice both activities and the use of can and can’t. And,
I put each student’s picture and name on the worksheets. This will motivate them to complete
the chart and they will feel special.
