DAMAGE IN TRANSPORTATION
All packages should be closely upon discovery, or in any event, 8*285–3449 immediately after
examined at time of delivery. If within 14 days after receipt, and the damage is found. At this time be

When ordering kits for the upgrade, two configurations are possible:

D Systems with model number 46–312100Gx require both the transducer interface (XDIF) kit
(Table 1) and the LOGIQ 700 upgrade kit (Table 2).

D Model number 2132700x systems may not require an XDIF kit.1

SECTION 22– MODIFY FRONT END

1. Loosen the 11 screws around the front end cage opening and carefully remove the EMC shield.

2-4 REMOVE FRONT END BOARDS

The TD contains CMOS. Being in a circuit does not protect the CMOS
CAUTION circuits from ESD. Wear a tested ESD strap whenever you touch a
circuit board.

1. Attach an ESD ground strap to the ground jack on unit and to your wrist.

2. Loosen top and bottom locking screws holding the TD in the FE card cage. Carefully place the RF cables out
of the way of the TD to be removed.

3. Put removal tubes on both top and bottom ejectors and push both tubes evenly and at the same time to
remove the TD. Place TD on recommended ESD ground mat, static free packaging/box, or equivalent. Refer
to Illustration 2–3.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all 16 time delay (TD) boards are removed from the unit.

5. Remove EQ from slot A21 of front end card cage. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to remove the EQ board.

Practice good ESD prevention when you disconnect or attach cables


CAUTION to the unit. A ground strap around your wrist, clipped to the ground
stud or plug, should prevent large electrical potential discharges into
the circuit boards. Refer to ESD Prevention in Section 1 of the Service
Manual for more information about ESD prevention.

1. Remove all probes connected to the LOGIQ 700. Set the probes aside in a safe place.

2. Remove six screws and bottom cover of operator control panel.

3. Place ESD mat on top of Control Panel.

4. Remove four screws and flat washers that secure upper OPI panel to operator panel. Place upper OPI panel
on the ESD mat.

5. Disconnect microphone cable from J2 on SW1 board.

9. Loosen two top nuts that secure control panel to mounting bearing.
10. While holding control panel to keep it from falling, remove two lower nuts that secure control panel to mounting
bearing. Then lower and tilt control panel until its slots clear upper mounting nuts. Place control panel on
an anti–static surface.

1. Pull off the cover strip located between the upper and lower front covers. This strip is attached to lower cover
with ribbed plastic standoffs.
2. Remove the nine screws (three on the bottom edge and three on each side) that secure the upper front cover.
3. Pull the upper front cover up and away from the unit to gain access, disconnect the ON/Standby switch wires
at the inline connector inside the console (DO NOT pull wires at switch), and then complete the cover removal.

4-7 INSERT CABLES THROUGH CABLE CHANNELS

All the new RF cables are the same length (1060 mm). Because of this, the cables must be installed in
order (lowest in stack with greatest reach first) and proceed upward to top cable of stack (see Table
4–2). Because the cables are identical, they are numbered in this instruction in the order they are to
be installed. The cables themselves are not numbered

1. Tape cable connector heads to protect pins during installation.

a. Insert XDIF end of cable into upper channel and carefully guide this end of cable through channel
and out slot below XDIF.

Note

Perform Paragraph 4-8 only if a new XDIF2 is being installed. If the original XDIF2 is being
reinstalled, proceed to Paragraph 4-9.

4-8 REMOVE COVER (NEW XDIF)

1. Loosen the five captive screws around the probe connectors.

Note

Manually remove the captive screws using hand tools only; these screws are delicate.

2. Loosen the four captive screws in the corners of the cover.

3. Remove the metal cover from the XDIF, using care to avoid hitting or scraping XDIF components.

4-9 INSTALL XDIF2

1. Carefully maneuver the XDIF2 assembly into the unit.

2. Holding the edges of the assembly, start the three top screws that hold the XDIF assembly to the frame.

3. Start the two bottom screws and the middle screw that hold the XDIF2 assembly to the frame.

4. When all screws have been started into the mating mounting holes of the frame, tighten all six screws.

5. Ensure jumper JP1 is in the A position.

1. Install the EMC shield and screws.

2. Feed the I–Data cable, P1, through the upper upper hole in the mesh on the BE Shield. Feed the Q–Data
cable, P2, through the lower hole in the mesh. Attach the cable ends to the SS.

3. Wrap the mesh around the cable below each connector. Install and tighten a tie wrap so the mesh touches
the connector shells.

To prevent damage to a drive, always:


CAUTION
• Handle the drive gently.
• Set the drive with its top side up on a flat, grounded and padded surface.
• Use the ESD strap when handling a drive that is not inside an anti–static
bag.
• Place the drive inside an anti–static bag or approved container before the
drive is handled by a non–grounded person, moved from the grounded
(ESD safe) area, or stored.
• Discharge the outside of the anti–static bag before transferring the drive.

1. Turn OFF power to the unit.

2. Disconnect line cord from outlet.

The TD contains CMOS. Being in a circuit does not protect the CMOS
CAUTION circuits from ESD. Wear a tested ESD strap whenever you touch a cir-
cuit board. Remove power before disconnecting parts.

1. Attach an ESD ground strap to the ground jack on unit and to your wrist.

2. Install front end control board (slot A10), system timing board (slot A12), time delay board 7 (slot A20), and
VEQ (slot A21) in the front end card cage.

4. Verify that an image appears on the monitor with some channels showing transmit function.

Probe Control Checks hardware and logic responsible for probe control Req.– MC, SS, SYTM,
and power. The host accesses the probe through the FECB, EQ, XDIF,
(Loopback CPU Control cable, FECB, EQ, probe control cable, and Loopback, cables
needed) XDIF. Power reaches the probe from PS3 to FE harness
to probe power cable to XDIF. Enter what XDIF connector Tests: XDIF, EQ, loopback,
has the loopback, then press [F10]. This diagnostic probe power, XDIF P1 and
checks: P2 cables

XDIF Wrapback Verifies host access to XDIF using its Wrapback control Req.– MC, SS, FECB,
register through the SS FECB EQ XDIF path. SYTM, EQ, XDIF, cables

Selecting ‘0’ for Loop Count and ‘No’ for Halt on Error
causes the test to repeat until interrupted with [Ctrl+A] or
[Esc].

7-3 PERFORM DC OFFSET CALIBRATION

1. Connect the service laptop to the bulkhead serial service port.

2. Start terminal communications software.

3. Boot (or reboot) LOGIQ 700 system.

4. Insert white or yellow service key into MOD.

5. When console completes boot–up, press <ENTER>, type [gemsC] and press <ENTER>.

6. Press <ESC> twice.

7. Use arrow keys to move cursor to DIAGNOSTICS and press <ENTER>

8. Use arrow keys to move cursor to DC OFFSET CAL and press <ENTER>.

D DC offset starts a short diagnostic routine, after which a configuration menu appears.
9. Ensure that the configuration menu is set to:

D Transducer Connector Number? 0;


D Center Frequency? ALL;
D Automatic or Manual Mode? AUTO;
D Calibrate Gain and Phase? NO;
D Calibrate DC Offset? YES;
D TX On for Gain & Phase Cal? NO;
D Debug Data Files? NO.

10. Press <ENTER> to start the test.

D Test will run by itself with no intervention.


11. Save calibration log file if test passes.

12. Follow on–screen instructions to complete and terminate test.

7-4 INSTALL RATING PLATE FOR UPGRADE

1. Remove air filter from rear of unit.

2. Install Rating Plate supplied in kit as shown in Illustration 7–1.

1. Verify all covers are in place.

2. Place the MOD disks for the system application software.

3. Complete and return Product Locator cards.

7-6 PACK PARTS

Save the shipping materials that were used to deliver the new components. Use the materials that were saved
to pack the old components for shipment. Always ensure that the circuit card connectors face the ends of the
box with the folds and bubble wrap. Otherwise, the connectors are likely to be damaged during shipment.
