Explanation

Explanation regarding to the implementation of the plan

At the introduction of the course, students are told that they will have an idea about the use of
fractions in daily life and make a musical instrument using fractions together. Then, teacher opens the
prepared video that explains how we use fractions in our daily lives with examples. After watching
the video, the teacher asks the class where we use fractions in our daily lives and students are asked to
discuss with groups of 2 or 3 students. After the discussion, the group spokespersons shared their
answers with the students in the whole class. Then, the students are introduced to the pan flute by the
teacher. The pan flute consists of reed pipes of different lengths connected side by side. A video is
played from the internet where the pan flute is played. Infographic is given to each student. In
infographic activity sheet with the given unit fractions, the student finds how many cm to be cut from
each 24 cm long straw. After that, 5 straws are distributed to each student and each straw is told to
make a length of 24 cm. The student creates 5 pieces of 24 cm long pipettes using scissors and a ruler.
Children will have pipettes of 20, 16, 12, 8 and 4 cm. Then the pipettes are brought side by side and a
pan flute is formed from the pipettes. The pipettes are attached to each other by means of band. As a
result, students use fractions to create a musical instrument that they can use in their daily lives. At
the end of the course, students are asked to complete the following gap: I learned / realized
................... today.
BACK-UP PLAN: The teacher must ensure that the materials are complete. The teacher must master
the content. Because, when there is a problem with technological devices, they should be able to
explain their video and content to their students. Videos should be stored in the computer's memory in
case of possible internet interruptions. At least one spare pipette should be available for each student
in the flute creation event against material degradation. Thus, it can prevent the negativities that may
occur.
