1. (a) Tabulate the important characteristics of an ideal and practical operational amplifiers.
Draw the equivalent circuit of an amplifier.
(b) What are the various DC and AC characteristics of an op-amp? Explain any one of them
in each.
2. (a) Draw the circuit diagram of an integrator using op-amp and explain its operation.
(b) Draw the circuit diagram of an astable multivibrator using op-amp and explain its oper-
ation with relevant waveforms.
3. (a) Design a first-order low-pass and a high-pass Butterworth active filters to satisfy the given
requirements.
(b) Write notes on all-pass filter. Give suitable circuit diagram and phase shift between input
and output voltage.
4. (a) Sketch the functional schematic diagram of 555 timer and explain how it can be used as
a monostable multivibrator.
(b) Draw the internal circuit diagram of IC565 and explain its working.
5. (a) Explain the following terms with respect to ADC.
i. Full scale range
ii. Quantization error
iii. Conversion time
(b) Draw the schematic of a DAC. Explain the working of a weighted resistor DAC.
6. (a) Design CMOS transistor circuit for 2-input AND gate. Explain the circuit with the help
of function table.
(b) Explain in brief, the following terms with reference to CMOS logic.
i. Logic levels
ii. Noise margin
iii. Power supply rails
iv. Propagation delay.
7. (a) Distinguish between encoder and priority encoder with respect to circuit diagrams and
design aspects.
(b) Design a parallel binary adder circuit using 2’s complement system.
8. (a) Draw the basic cell structure of dynamic RAM. What is the necessity of refresh cycle?
Explain the timing requirements of refresh operation.
(b) Discuss in detail ROM access mechanism with the help of timing waveforms.

the necessary expression.

4. (a) Design an astable multivibrator using 555 timer to get a square wave of 1 kHz with 50%
duty cycle. Explain its operation with waveforms.
(b) Draw the block diagram of PLL and explain its functional operation of each block.

5. (a) Draw the circuit diagram of successive approximation ADC and explain its operation.
(b) Draw the circuit diagram of R-2R ladder type DAC and explain its working.

6. (a) Design a TTL three-state NAND gate and explain the operation with the help of function
table.
(b) Explain sinking current and sourcing current of TTL out. Which of the parameters decide
the fan-out and how?

7. (a) Design a driver circuit for LED display.


(b) Design a parallel binary subtractor using 2’s complement system.

8. (a) Explain the necessity of two-dimensional decoding mechanism in memories. Draw MOS
transistor memory cell in ROM and explain the operation.
(b) With the help of timing waveforms, explain read and write operations of SRAM.

(b) Draw the block diagram of PLL and explain its each block.

5. (a) Explain the operation of weighted resistor summing D to A converter with a neat sketch.

relevant waveforms.

6. (a) What is the difference between transmission time and propagation delay? Explain these
two parameters with reference to CMOS logic.
(b) Draw the resistive model of a CMOS inverter circuit and explain its behavior for LOW
and HIGH outputs.

7. (a) Design the combinational logic circuit for LED seven segment display using TTL-74XX
series gates.
(b) Write notes on gray code to binary converter.

8. (a) Design and explain an 8-bit synchronous binary counter with serial enable control.
(b) Design and explain the operation of 4 bit serial in serial out shift register.

(b) Draw the circuit diagram of non-inverting operational amplifier and derive the expression
for voltage gain.

2. (a) Draw the circuit of a voltage to current converter if the load is


i. floating and
ii. grounded.
Is there any limitation on the size of the load when grounded?
(b) What are the limitations of an ordinary op-amp differentiator? Draw the circuit of a
practical differentiator that will eliminate these limitations.

3. (a) Draw the circuit diagrams of band pass, band reject and all pass filters and explain their
operation.
(b) Draw the block diagram of VCO and explain its each block.

4. (a) Design a monostable multibrator using 555 timer to get a pulse width of 0.1 msec. Draw
the relevant circuit diagram and waveforms.
(b) Draw the block the diagram of PLL and describe its individual blocks.

5. (a) Explain the principle of operation of dual slope ADC. Sketch the waveforms.
(b) Give the standard DAC and ADC specifications with normal values.

6. (a) Explain the following terms with reference to TTL gate.


i. DC noise margin
ii. Fan-out
(b) A single pull-up resistor to +5V is used to provide a constant-logic source to 15 different
74LS00 inputs. What is the maximum value of this resistor? How much high state dc
noise margin can be provided in this case?

7. (a) Implement the following Boolean function using 8:1 multiplexer


F(ABCD) = ABD + ACD + BCD + ACD
(b) Design the combinational logic circuit for LCD display using CMOS 40XX series gates.

8. (a) Design and explain the operation of 4-bit serial in parallel out register.
(b) Draw and explain the circuit of edge-trigged SR flip flop made up of by basic gates. Sketch
the wave forms.
