DESCRIPTION OF SITUATION:

For the high vibration on the first section of drilling, the canrig top drive has some
problems.

• Frame to blower support has been broken.

• Auxiliary lower J-BOX on the torque guide has been fallen.

• Cover for auxiliary J-BOX on the top drive has been fallen.

• Ethernet module in J-BOX top drive has been broken in special the fiber optic
connection.

To the last situation mentioned we had been down time.

Canrig company recommends the following:

• When the top drive is subject to high vibration, we need to do the inspections
recommended by CANRIG to reduce or prevent the problems on TOP DRIVE.

• Electrical top drive team has a proposal for the follow point:

Ethernet module in J-BOX top drive has been broken in special the fiber optic connection.

• When the top drive is drilling in hard condition (high vibration) a thing that has
problem is Ethernet module because it broken the fiber optic connection or the
Ethernet plug.

• Normally the top drive working with fiber optic communication until the J-BOX TD after, it
use a short Ethernet cable directly to plc, according to following drawing:

The idea is put an additional communication system but it just use Ethernet cables from
the upper J-BOX to directly PLC, in conclusion, changed the fiber optic to Ethernet cable
in this case we will need.

The purpose is, install the additional system in a Canrig top drive and start to test about
the additional system, after we will install in all Canrig top drive.

We will need the following material:

Remarks

• Very important when the top drive is drilling on high vibration condition, you need to do a
Canrig recommendation inspection(mandatory)

• When the additional communication system has been installed, the proposal is reduce the
Down time from lost communication on the top drive, in case you could connect the
Ethernet communication and continue working.
