 About the project
Four laning of existing two lane from Talwandi Bhai to Ferozpur NH- 05(Old NH- 95) from
km.170.38 to km.194.040 in the state of Punjab. This project also includes minor bridges and
culverts.

Client: NHAI

Salient Features of Minor Bridge-

• Span of Minor bridge: 35 m

• carriage way width: 13 m on each side (RHS and LHS)
• Foundation: 1 m diameter RCC cast in situ pile foundation.
• Super Structure: Pre-stressed longitudinal beams, cross beams, bearings, diaphragm
and deck slab.
Some of the tests performed in lab are:

• Cement tests like consistency test, initial and final setting time test, soundness test
etc.
• Soil tests like maximum dry density test, field dry density test, moisture content test,
gradation test etc.
• Some bitumen tests like penetration tests, softening point test, flash and fire point
test etc.
Salient features of road:

• Type of pavement: Flexible pavement.

• Purpose served: National highway connecting Talwandi Bhai to Ferozpur.
• Width of carriage way: 13 metres on each side.

Date of joining: 14 June,2019

List Of Work Completed Before Joining:

• Testing of pile foundation.

• 10 pile foundation were casted but there was problem in their alignment. So those
have to be re casted.

Project Progress at Joining

• Fixing of points for pile foundation.

• Casting of test pile.

Casting of Piles
Casting of piles require following steps:
• Boring, linear insertion and rock cutting
• Applying bentonite slurry to walls of bore hole
• Temporary cage insertion
• Permanent reinforcement cage insertion
• Concreting
• Removal of temporary cage
 Problems faced and solutions to these problems

• 10 pile were casted with wrong alignment. These will be casted again with proper
fixation of points.
• Breakdown of machine causing delay in work. 2 machines were hired later on for
speeding up the work.
• Some thieves stole some reinforcement bars from cages. As a result, cages had to
be recasted.

METHOLOGY

• Interacting with site engineers, Supervisors and Contractors.

• Learning proper steps in completion of structural elements.
• Supervision of work at Site.
• Using basic knowledge of subjects studied in college.
