10th ASTRA CUP

GENERAL RULES AND GUIDELINES:

1. This year’s theme of Astra Cup is IGNIT10N: Igniting Sparks into Raging Inferno.

2. 10th Astra Cup events shall comprise of the following:


Academic events:
 Astra Accounting Quiz Bowl
i. Elite Level
ii. Master Level
 Astra Mind Twister
Non-Academic events:
 Astra Chess Tournament
 Astracapella
 Astra Dance Blast
 Astra Spoken Poetry

3. Confirmation form must be sent through email at jpia.faith@gmail.com email on or


before January 26, 2020. Those who will submit the said form within the given
period will pay the registration fee of P220.00 on the event date upon registration.
4. Submitted list of attendees shall be final and irrevocable. Changing or
cancellation of participants are strictly prohibited.
5. Billing statements will be sent within five working days after the submission of
confirmation form. This should be presented upon registration, otherwise, a P250.00
registration fee per attendee shall be paid.
6. Attendees are required to bring school identification cards on the event day,
otherwise, he/she shall pay a P250.00 registration fee.
7. Each participating school must wear decent and proper clothes. Wearing slippers
and revealing clothes are strictly prohibited. Every school is encouraged to wear
their organization shirts or any apparel that showcase unity.

ACADEMIC EVENT

OBJECTIVES

 To assess the students’ competitiveness among others;

 To evaluate the students’ knowledge in different fields of accounting; and

 To promote camaraderie among accountancy students from various

universities and colleges

ASTRA ACCOUNTING QUIZ BOWL

GENERAL RULES:

Participants

1. A maximum of three (3) participants can be sent by each Local Chapter

(LC) for every level.

2. The participant must be currently enrolled in BS Accountancy program for

the Academic Year 2019-2020 and had taken partially or fully the subjects

covered by the corresponding level.


Requirements

1. Duly accomplished Confirmation Letter.


2. A soft copy of the latest registration form from the school registrar and
identification card.
3. The duly accomplished Confirmation Letter and other requirements must
be sent through email at jpia.faith@gmail.com on or before January 26,
2020.

Guidelines

1. Room assignment for each participant will be provided upon registration.

2. The participants are advised to be at the quiz bee venue at least fifteen

(15) minutes before the scheduled time of the competition for quiz briefing

and instructions.

3. Late contestants will still be allowed to participate in the competition;

however, he/she will be disqualified for the questions he/she missed.


4. Spectators are not allowed inside the venue/classroom during the

elimination round.

5. The quizmaster will only read the first sentence of the question.

6. The participants will be provided a copy of the question while it is flashed

on the flat screen TV. The contestants shall start answering the question (e.g.

begin writing or pressing the buttons of the calculator) ONLY after the

quizmaster says “GO”. A verbal warning shall be given for the 1st offense;

2nd offense shall mean disqualification from the particular question, while

the 3rd offense entails automatic disqualification of the contestant from the

competition.

7. When the electronic timer rings, signaling the lapse of time allotted, the

participants should be able to key in his/her answer once the quizmaster

declares so; otherwise his/her answer shall be forfeited.

8. Contestants are only allowed to use non-programmable calculators for the

cup.

9. All questions are uncontestable.

10. The JPIA-FAITH Local Chapter Vice President for Academics shall have

authority over the conduct of the 9TH ASTRA CUP. He may interpret the rules

in case of ambiguity, or modify them if deemed necessary, upon


consultation with the other officers and LC Adviser, to pre-serve the integrity

of the competition. His decision is final and irrevocable.

Mechanics

1. The competition is composed of two (2) levels:

2. Each level has two rounds: Elimination Round & Final Round.
3. The Elimination Round is a Raise-Your-Board round. Refer to the table below:

4. Only the top eight scorers per level shall advance to the Final Round.

5. In case of a tie, a clincher question shall be raised until the deadlock is broken.

6. The Final Round is an electronic-based round.

7. The winner of each level shall receive the following: medal and Certificate.

9. The top five schools with the highest cumulative scores in elimination and final

round for all levels shall qualify for the Over-All Championship Round. In this round,

the top five schools will choose one representative. Questions will be from

Financial Accounting and Reporting.

10. The representative who first gets it to the top will be declared as the

“Champion of 10th ASTRA ACCOUNTING QUIZ BOWL”.


ASTRA MIND TWISTER

GENERAL RULES:

Participants

any Accounting related program for the Academic Year 2019-2020.

Mechanics

1. The competition is divided into two rounds: Elimination Round and Final

Round, covering the following topics: Math, Science, Significant persons and

places, Social sciences, current events, and other general information.

2. The Elimination Round is written exam. On the elimination round, each

participant will take a written examination regarding the subject coverage.

There will be one (1) hour time allotment for this exam. The exam will be

checked by the organizing committee.

3. Only the top ten scorers shall advance to the Final Round.

NON – ACADEMIC EVENTS

OBJECTIVES

 To enhance the confidence of accountancy students towards their


talents;

 To relieve the academic stress of the accountancy students; and

 To promote companionship and camaraderie among accountancy


students from various universities and colleges.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. The Non-Academic Events of 10th Astra Cup shall comprise of the following:
 Astra Chess Tournament
 Astracapella
 Astra Dance Blast
 Astra Spoken Poetry
2. The board of judges shall be selected by JPIA-FAITH LC and shall have the
appropriate credentials to judge a particular event. The board of judges
shall not be affiliated or related to any local chapter participating in any
non-academic event.
3. The board of judges has the sole and exclusive authority to clear or answer
any protest/clarification related to the judging of a particular event raised
by the contestants. The decision of the board of judges is final and
irrevocable.
4. For Non-Academic Events, repetition of participants is not allowed.
5. For Astracapella, Astra Dance Blast and Astra Spoken Poetry, draw lots shall
determine the order of performances. This shall be done after the opening
program of the 10TH Astra Cup through a representative for each Non-
Academic Event participant.
6. All concerns, clarifications, complaints or questions must be directly
addressed to JPIA-FAITH LC Vice President for Non-Academics.

PARTICIPANTS

1. Players/Participants must be bona fide BS Accountancy, BS Accounting

Technology and/or BS Management Accounting students of their

respective local chapter. Non-compliance of this rule will mean an

automatic disqualification.

REQUIREMENTS

ASTRA CHESS TOURNAMENT

GENERAL RULES:

1. The tournament will be played in pairs (all male, all female or mixed).

2. Each local chapter may send a maximum of two (2) pairs

3. Time control – The rate of play in this competition shall be maximum of

twenty (20) minutes per game.

4. Scoring – Each pair will earn one (1) point for a win, a half point (1/2) for a

draw and zero (0) for a loss.

5. Tournament Format – The participating teams/pairs will be divided into

pools (A and B, and C, if necessary) of six teams each. Every team/pair

plays one match against the other teams in its pool.

a. After the pool matches are completed, based on their accumulated

scores:

i. The 1st seed of Pool A plays against the 2nd seed of Pool B

ii. The 1st seed of Pool B plays against the 2nd seed of Pool A

iii. The 1st seed of Pool A plays against the 2nd seed of Pool B. The

1st seed of Pool B plays against the 2nd seed of Pool C. The 1st

seed of Pool C plays against the 2nd seed of Pool A. (Only if

necessary)
iv. The winning teams/pairs of these matches then can play semi-

finals in a Best-of-1 Match.

v. The winning teams/pairs of the semi-finals then advance to the

finals in a Best-of-3 Match.

vi. The losing team of the semi-finals match will play in a Best-of-1

Battle for Third.

vii. The winning team/pair of the Finals in a Best-of-3 Match will be

the Champion and the losing team/pair will be the 1st runner

Up.

6. Tournament Rules – All standard rules for the game apply. These are the

highlights:

i. Properly move all the chess pieces

ii. Understand pawn promotion.

iii. Understand rules for “advanced” moves: Castling and en

passant capture (note: please ask the organizer in case of any

confusion about en passant rule)

iv. Understand Check and the ways to get out of check (move,

block, capture.)

v. Understand Checkmate

vi. Understand the “touch-move” rule


vii. Understand 50 moves draw rule (i.e. the game can be claimed

drawn after 50 moves if there are no pawn moves or no

captures.)

viii. Understand 3-fold repetition rule. The game can be claimed

drawn if the exact same position is repeated thrice.

ix. No outside assistance during games is allowed.

7. Non-compliance of the above rules will automatically mean

disqualification.

ASTRACAPELLA

GENERAL RULES:

1. The battle is a mash-up a cappella competition.

2. Each Local Chapter may send one (1) entry.

3. Each participating group must be composed of 5 to 8 members only.

4. Duration of each performance must be within four (4) to six (6) minutes

including their entrance and exit.

5. Participating groups have the discretion to choose the songs that they will

be using as their contest piece, but it must include one (1) song related to

this year’s theme, Ignit10n: Igniting Sparks into Raging Inferno.

6. Musical or instrumental accompaniments are not allowed. Performance

must be composed of purely vocal and bodily sounds.

7. Seven microphones, four mic stands will be provided by the organizers.

8. There will be one champion and two runner ups. Winners will receive trophy

and certificate.

9. Non-compliance to any of the above rules will have a corresponding 3-

point deduction each.

10. Upon deliberation, the decision of the board of judges is final and

irrevocable.

GENERAL RULES:

1. Each team shall be composed of 8-15 members.

2. Each Local Chapter may send one (1) entry.

3. Each performance should not exceed five (5) minutes.

4. Compliance with the theme is not required.

5. Music to be used must be in a flash drive and participants must provide for

back up.

6. Use of pyrotechnics, smoke, live animals, and any dangerous materials are

strictly prohibited.

7. Stunts and tumbling are not allowed.

8. Any indecent and malicious act as judged by the JPIA-FAITH LC officers

shall be subject to automatic disqualification.

9. There will be one champion and two runner ups. Winners will receive trophy

and certificate.

10. Non-compliance to any of the above rules will have a corresponding 3-

point deduction each.

11. Upon deliberation, the decision of the board of judges is final and

irrevocable.

ASTRA SPOKEN POETRY

GENERAL RULES:

1. Each Local Chapter may send one (1) entry.

2. Each entry can be in single or in pair upon the discretion of the local

chapter which they will represent.

3. Medium of expression that will be used in the day of the competition is

“Filipino.”

4. Contestants will be given forty-five (45) minutes to compose a free-verse or

rhyme poem about the theme that will be given on the day of the

competition. Non-compliance of this rule will mean a 5-point deduction on

the total score.

5. Each contestant will be given minimum of three (3) minutes and maximum

of five (5) minutes to perform their contest piece.

6. There will be one champion and two runner ups. Winners will receive trophy

and certificate.

7. Non-compliance to any of the above rules will have a corresponding 3-

point deduction each.

8. Upon deliberation, the decision of the board of judges is final and

irrevocable.
