ATLAS Seminar

UV Testing, and What Else You Need to Predict Service Life

Automotive, Paints, Coatings, Plastics, Packaging, Ink
August 20th 2019, Jakarta Indonesia 9:30AM – 4:30PM

Summary
Focus: Paints and Coatings, Plastics, Ink, Automotive Exterior and Interior Materials
Using research from major paints and coatings companies, we will investigate
accelerated testing techniques that increase confidence in warranty and service life
prediction. We will use examples of polymer sensitivities to understand possible
outcomes of performing accelerated tests with fluorescent UVA, UVB, carbon arc, and
xenon arc light sources. Good understanding of end use stress factors is essential so we
will carefully define sunlight, temperature, and moisture behavior.

We will also share common examples of outdoor static and accelerated weathering
techniques used for investigating correlation. We will share laboratory correlation and
acceleration examples from major companies to help give better understanding of how
many hours in the lab test equates to years in real time.

Speakers
Craig Hazzard has been with Atlas for 18 years. He currently serves as the Asia
sales director based in Japan. He has worked with OEMs and materials
companies in the greater Asia region helping them optimize test cycles, or adopt
practices that produce correlation, and increase acceleration. Previously Craig
worked as a technical sales specialist, first focusing on the use Atlas instruments
for degradation studies of active pharmaceutical ingredients, then expanding his
role to the use of Atlas instruments for industrial applications. Craig has a BA in
History from the University of Texas at Austin

Mr. Watcharachet Chattarapatthitikul (Baitong) is a specialist in accelerated

weathering testing concepts with focus on paints and coatings, automotive
materials, and packaging applications. Baitong graduated in 2011 from King
Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi from the Faculty of Science with a
Major in Applied Physics. He works for Atlas Material Testing, a division of
AMETEK, and is responsible for Southeast Asia technical sales and distribution
channels.
