Philosophy of Education
The way that the teacher runs the classroom is extremely important to the growth of
children in the schooling system. A teacher should be seen as a facilitator rather than an
instructor in the front of a classroom. Alexandra K. Trenfor once said, “The best teachers are
those who show you where to look but don’t tell you what to see.” As a facilitator, you should
help empower the student to reach their full potential and give them the skills and knowledge
they will need to succeed throughout their journey in life. To be a successful educator, you must
cater to the needs of all students that enter through your classroom doors. However, you must be
passionate and dedicated to your job in order to do this. If the educator is not showing passion
towards their career, they will not be able to reach the students in the classroom. Teachers can
only reach as far as the student will go in terms of effort, so the street in education runs both
ways. A student must put in the effort and take in what the teacher is giving to them, and by
doing this, the student will exceed not only in the classroom but throughout their life.
In order for students to reach their full potential in the classroom, the educator must be
willing to accommodate to each students personal learning styles, rather than stick with a solo
style throughout the lessons. The environment within the classroom must feel safe and
comfortable to the students rather than being lined up in desks in a blank room with bright lights.
The students should be able to have a sense of calmness and belonging in the class, with seating
arrangements that are not the common type that have been the setup of a classroom since the
beginning of schooling. Children should be able to sit in comfortable seats with calming
surroundings, such as pictures and imagery around the walls of the class. Rather than reading
straight from textbooks and taking notes, I will try to accommodate to all students needs in my
classroom. I will implement different techniques with trial and error, bringing in technology and
activities to help break the normal routine. Even though one can try my best to tailor to every
child’s needs, it is important that the student puts the effort back in return.
The goal of education is to push each student to become informed and skilled enough to
succeed throughout the rest of their lives. Rather than being just grades on a paper, education
goes beyond that. As learned through Maslow’s Hierarchy, it is extremely important to tailor to
the needs of all students, which goes beyond teaching. By meeting all needs of a student in a
classroom, the more they will able to succeed throughout life. The educator must prepare the
student for the next step in their journey and make sure that they have all the right tools and
