Detailed Lesson Plan

Featuring Collaborative Learning

I. Objectives: At the end of the class discussion, pupils are expected to;
A. visualize addition of similar fractions using models;
B. add similar fractions;
C. relate adding similar fractions in real life situation.

II. Subject Matter: Adding Similar Fraction

Reference: Math IV
Materials: Visuals, Marker, Charts, Color
Value Focus: Being Good and Kind
Prepared by: Bañas, Gamaliel G.

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activity

Teacher’s Activities Pupil’s Activity

1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
3. Drill
Shake up, up
Shake down, down
Shake up, up and shake down, down.
The big balloon, in your seat.
4. Review
Class, do you still remember
our last topic? Yes, teacher.
So what was our last topic all about? About Fraction teacher.
Yes, Very Good!

How do we know
that it is a fraction? If there are numerator and
denominator .
Can you give me example of a fraction? 3/4, 1/2 teacher!
Yes, that is right!

5. Motivation
Before we are going to proceed to our
discussion this afternoon, I will group the
class first into three (3) groups. This is the
Group 1 your color will be Red, this is
the Group 2and you are Blue and this
will be the Group 3 and you will be
the yellow team.

All you have to do is to shade the pie

according to the fraction in the piece of
paper which is being asked
to complete the visualization.

Am I understood, class? Yes, teacher!

Timer starts go!

+ =
1/4 2/4 3/4
Did you enjoy the activity class? Yes, teacher!

What are the fractions you can see? 1/4, 2/4 and 3/4 teacher!
Very good!
What mathematical operation
is being used? Addition, teacher
Yes, very good!
Now what happen if we add the
red color to the blue color? Will become green
teacher.
Definitely!
So now count how many shaded
parts of red and blue pie are in all? Three teacher!
Yes, correct!
How about the denominator of
the three fractions? They are all the same
teacher, four (4).
Incredible!

So now base on the illustration

you have completed what will be
the topic for today? Adding Fraction teacher!

Yes, that’s right!

B. Developmental Activity
a. Presentation
Our topic for today is all about
Adding Similar Fraction.

1. Showing objectives
The learning target for today is that;
 I can determine the sum on addition on similar fractions;
 I can visualize addition of similar fractions using models;
 I can relate adding similar on fractions in real life situation.

b. Setting of Standards
Before we move on I have
here a pie and I need three persons
to pick one portion of the pie,
afterwards he/she will read
what is written under it.

I will cooperate to the given activity I will behave during discussion and
of the teacher. group activity.

I will enjoy the discussion

Very Good, can I expect

that from you? Yes, teacher!

c. Discussion
With the same group form
a circle and discuss the
following activity by using
the guidelines. After answering
your work, paste it in front for
the presentation. You may select
a leader to discuss with you and a
member of the group to share how
you come up with your answers.

Group 1

Solving through visualization.

Guide for the activity.
1. Count the parts of each pie for the denominator.
Check if they are the same. Write the same number
to the green pie.
2. Shade the part of the object being asked by looking
the number of denominator of each pie.
3. With the same number of shaded parts, shade the
3rd objects to complete the activity.

3/8 + 4/8 = 7/__

Group 2
Solving through visualization.
Guide for the activity.

3/8 + 4/8 = 7/8

1. Count the shaded parts of each figure:

1. 2. 3.
2. Complete the solution by filling the value of each
figure.

3. /8 + 4/ = /
Group 3
Solving
Guide for the activity.

3/10 + 4/10 + 2/10 = __/10

3/9 + 1/9 + 3/9 = __/__

1. look if the fractions are similar? Are they?

2. add the three numerators.
3. write the answer the question sign.
4. copy the denominator of the given.

Fixing of Concepts
The teacher will check the pupils output.

d. Application
Class, let us try if you get
what the discussion. Let us
have a quiz bowl. We will
only have two categories the
easy round and the difficult
round. I will post the question
to be read in just 10 seconds,
afterwards when you hear the
bell sounds (bell rings) you will
stop answer and write the letter
of your choice.
Am I understood class? Yes, teacher!
Easy round, Two points each.
Directions: Write the letter of the correct answer.

1. 4/6 + 1/6 = a. 5/6 b. 6/6

2. 1/9 + 7/9 = a. 7/9 b. 8/9
3. 9/15 + 3+15 = a. 12/15 b. 13/15

Difficult round, 5 points each.

Directions: Write the correct answer of the problem.
1. Ana buys 1/4 kilos of mango and 2/4 of chiko. How
many kilos are in all?
Ans. 3/4
2. Jannah ate yesterday 3/6 of pizza, today she eat
2/6 of pizza left yesterday. How many pizza did
Jannah ate?
Ans. 5/6

Very Good! I guess you all

understand our topic for this afternoon.

C. Concluding Activities
1. Generalization
So class, in order to get the sum of
two fractions what did you do? We add, teacher!
Very Good!
How will we add fraction? Add the numerators and
copy the Denominator.
Very good!

Valuing
Class, I have a situation here,
and let us check what we can say.

Alina’s mother needs to eat every day ¾ kilos of fruits. So Alina

bought this day 2/4 kilos of durian and ¼ kilos of avocado for
her mother who is old. Alina wants to take good care of her
mother and make her strong. Alina being a good daughter
make sure she bought the right kilos of fruits by adding the ilos
of fruits she buys.

What Alina bought? She bought fruits.

And for whom Alina bought fruits? For her mother, teacher!
What kind of daughter Alina is? A good and loving
daughter teacher!
Yes, very Good!
Being a good daughter, how
Alina make sure she buys the
right kilos of fruits? Adding the kilos of fruits
teacher!
Yes Very Good!
Now class is it important that
we will know how to add similar
fraction in real life situation? Yes, teacher!
Just like Alina, she bought the
right kilos of fruits by adding
the kilos of fruits she buys.

Checking of objectives
This day I able to;
 determine the sum on addition on similar fractions;
 visualize addition of similar fractions using models;
 relate adding similar on fractions in real life situation.
IV. Evaluation

Now class, I want you to answer the given problems.

Directions: Add the following similar fractions.

1. Leoniel Cabarliza has 3/5 kilos of rice and Marie Lozada has 1/5 kilos
of rice. They both agree to cook it. How many kilos of rice will Leoniel
and Marie cook?

2. Harold and Charles Willy are both hunters. Charles hunted a wild
deer and takes 2/4 kilos at home while Harold takes 1/4 kilos of mouse
deer. Analyn their mother cook the meat which the two sons brought
home. How many kilos did Analyn their mother cooked?
V. Assignment
Get your assignment notebook and copy your assignment.

Directions: Add the following similar fractions.

1. 3/10 + 1/10 =

2. 3/12 + 1/12 =

3. 1/3 + 1/3 =
