Hermitian, Skew-Hermitian and Unitary matrices and their properties. Eigen

Theorem and its applications – Diagonolization of matrix. Calculation of
powers of matrix and inverse of a matrix. Quadratic forms – Reduction of
quadratic form to canonical form and their nature.
Solution of Algebraic and Transcendental Equations: The Bisection Method – The Method of 08
II False Position– Newton-Raphson Method, Solution of linear simultaneous equation: Crout’s
triangularisation method, Gauss - Seidal iteration method
Interpolation: Newton’s forward and backward interpolation formulae –
III Lagrange’s formulae. Gauss forward and backward formula, Stirling’s 09
formula, Bessel’s formula.
Curve fitting: Fitting of a straight line – Second degree curve – Exponentional
curve-Power curve by method of least squares. Numerical Differentiation for

Simpson’s 1/3 Rule – Simpson’s 3/8 Rule.
Numerical solution of Ordinary Differential equations: Solution by Taylor’s
series-Picard’s Method of successive Approximations-Euler’s Method-Runge-
V Kutta Methods. Numerical solutions of Laplace equation using finite 14

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

To Develop basic knowledge on ranks of matrices, system of linear equations, Eigen values & Eigen vectors of a

2 To Build basic knowledge on Numerical methods to solve algebraic and Transcendental equations.

3 To Develop Numerical Skills in analyzing the methods of interpolating a given data.


4 To Develop Skills in designing mathematical models for Fitting geometrical curves to the given data.
