1. Describe what is implied by the term “transformational leadership.”

Transformational leadership is a type of leadership where a leader works with subordinates and identifies
needed changes, creates a vision to guide the needed changes through inspiration and executes the changes in
tandem with the members of the group. The leaders transform subordinates by making them aware and interested
in the task outcomes, inducing them to perform to achieve the outcomes and to motivate them by enabling them
achieve higher order needs.

Transformational leadership can also be defined as a kind of leadership style in which the leaders work in
close cooperation with the employees. They identify the change needs of the followers and then inspire them by
creating a vision for them and motivate them to bring the change.

2. What are the personality characteristics and types of behaviors often associated with charismatic leaders?

The personality characteristics and types of behaviors associated with charismatic leaders include strong
role models for the beliefs and values they want their followers to adopt, appear competent to followers, articulate
ideological goals with moral overtones, and communicate high expectations for followers.

3. Describe the view that leadership is on a continuum ranging from transformational to laissez-faire.

The leadership continuum begins at transformational leadership, in which the leader must show followers
the specified and idealized goals. The transactional leadership phase is defined by creating a group ideology and
ridding individual interests. Lastly, is Laissez-Faire Leadership, which is defined by addressing higher-level needs.

4. What are the seven factors incorporated in the Bass Model of Transformational and Transactional Leadership.

 Charisma or idealized influence, which is defined by the emotional component of leadership.


 Inspiration of inspirational motivation, which is characterized by leaders who communicate high
expectations.
 Intellectual stimulation, which is characterized by stimulating creative and innovative challenges.
 Individualized consideration, which is characterized by supportive claims and listen to their followers.
 Contingent reward, which is characterized by the effort of followers being rewarded.
 Management by exception, which is characterized by corrective criticism, negative feedback, and negative
reinforcement.
 Laissez-Faire, which is characterized by the absence of leadership entirely.
