AFTN COMUNICATIONS CENTER: Aftn station whose primary function is the aftn
traffic retransmission of other aftn stations connected to it.
AIRPLANE: is a powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that
of the air it displaces.

CIRCUIT: communication system that includes all direct channels of the aftn between
two points.
A)as for flights over the high sea: is the appropriate authority of the state of registration
B)As for flights that are not high sea: the appropriate authority of the state that has
sovereignty over the over flew territory.

DATABASE: one or more structured data files so that data can be extracted from the files
for appropriate applications and up dated.

EMERGENCY PHASE: generic expression that means , as the case maybe, uncertainty
phase, alert phase or danger phase.

FLIGHT LEVEL : Constant atmospheric pressure surface related to a certain pressure
reference, 1,013.2 hectopascals (hPa), separated from other analogous surfaces by certain
pressure ranges.
FLIGHT PLAN PRESENTED (FPL): Flight plan, as presented to the ATS unit by the
pilot or his designated representative, without any subsequent changes.
FRECUENCY CHANNEL: continuous portion of the frequency spectrum suitable for
transmission, in which a particular type of emission is used.

GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION: Coordinate set (latitude and longitude)in relation to the
mathematical reference ellipsoid that defines the location of a point on the Earth's Surface

LEVEL: Generic term referring to the vertical position of an aircraft in flight, which means
either height, altitude or flight level.

MESSAGE FIELD: as signed part of a message that contains specified data elements.

PRECISION: The smallest difference that can be distinguished with confidence through a
measurement process.

QUALITY: are all the characteristics of an entity that refers to it’s ability to meet
established and implicit needs

REPETITIVE FLIGHT PLAN (RPL): Flight plan related to each of the regular flights
that are frequently carried out with identical basic characteristics, presented by the Operators
for the Air Traffic Services (ATS) units to keep and use repeatedly.

SEARCH: operation normally coordinated by a rescue coordination center or rescue sub-
center, in which the personnel and facilities available are used to locate people in danger.

UNCERTAINTY PHASE: situation in which there Is doubt about the safety of the aircraft
and its occupants
