DzSee You in Delhidz The message that India gave to the world on closing ceremony
of Common Wealth Games (CWG), Melbourne. India is the second ever
developing country to organize a world third largest multi-sport event. CWG is
scheduled in Delhi from 4 th Oct. to 16 th Oct. The question here arises,dzIs this a
step towards a Indiaǯs journey to become super-power or just a waste of money
which India could invest in human development or any other sector?
- p Infrastructure > Delhi is one the modern and planned city of the country.
However due to heavy inflow of tourism because of CWG, the city needs to
be beautified, New structures, Hotels, Transport services are improved by
the government. Thus the basic step towards the developed economy,
INFRASTRUTURE, is improved with CWG.
- p In the attempt to make the World class Delhi, Demolition of slums and
other areas are seen. Approximately 6 lachawkers willhave to face the
evacuation during games. Thus World class Delhi on the darker side is
creating a difference between rich and poor in the city.
- p The city has major water and electricity problems at present, which might
increase for the common people because of CWGas the special focus is to
provide best quality to the tourists instead of Indian citizens.
Well from the economic point of view, with the increase in the infrastructure,
development increases, as the construction activities increase, there is increase
in need of labour and more employment opportunit ies are created. The demand
for Raw materials increase which in turn increases price welcoming economic
growth. The same scenario was seen during Olympics held in china. Iron prices
all over Asia had increased due to Olympics. Thus one can say that such events
are necessary for the developing countries especially to those countries which
has strong foundation to become super powers in near future. But every coin has
two sides, the other side indicates that this investment would hardly uplift the
people living below the poverty line or else they are the one to suffer the most in
this. The benefits of huge investment are enjoyed by the richer segment of the
country, Eg. GMR group. Thus richer becomes richer and poor becomes poorer.
India should rather focus on such issues than creating a mark of developed
country without any firm foundation. There is no point of hiding economic
problems to show the world class Delhi.
