3rd Grade Homeroom

Syllabus

Introduction:
As salam alaykum,
My name is Br. Yahya and I will be your homeroom teacher this year. We have a lot to
accomplish this year, and it is important that you work hard and come to school pre-
pared to learn.
This year, we will focus on three main themes:
1. Stories of the Prophets and the Righteous
2. Duas of the righteous from the Quran
3. Building a Strong and Noble Character
Each week, we will focus on one of these themes, and rotate through each theme in a 3
week cycle.

Materials for Class:


It is important to arrive at class prepared. You will need to bring the following materials
to class every day:
1. Your Homeroom Folder with 3 Prongs and Sheet Protectors
2. Your Homeroom/Islamic Studies Composition Notebook
3. Your Tasbih beads
4. A pencil
5. Your general art supplies

When You Arrive:


Every day, when you arrive at school, it is important to focus your mind and get ready to
learn. When you arrive, please do the following every day:
1. Place your bookbag and materials at your desk.
2. Immediately pray 2 Rakahs carefully and slowly.
3. Sit at your desk and look at the instructions on the board.
Pay attention to regular instructions on the board:
1. Every Monday, bring out your agenda and place it on the teacher’s desk.
2. Journal Entries will require your composition Notebook
3. Every Friday will be Salawat Day. Bring out your tasbih and make dhikr until
we begin group Salawat

Stories of the Prophets and the Righteous — First Week


The first week in each 3 week cycle will be spent studying the story of a prophet or a righteous
person. A typical week here will look like this:
Monday: Read and discuss the Story
Tuesday: Read and discuss the Story
Wednesday: Read and discuss the Story
Thursday: Artwork or other activity related to the story
Friday: Salawat and Dhikr Day (Quiet Day)

Duas of the Righteous — Second Week


The second week in each 3 week cycle will be spent studying one or two duas from a prophet or a
righteous person from the Quran. At the end of the year, there will be a dua competition over all
of the duas studied that year. A typical week here will look like this:
Monday: Journal and Dhikr (Quiet Day)
Tuesday: Discussion about Journal and overview of Dua
Wednesday: Memorize Dua and testing of students
Thursday: Memorize Dua and testing of students
Friday: Salawat and Dhikr Day (Quiet Day)

Building a Strong and Noble Character — Third Week


The third week in each 3 week cycle will be spent studying the characteristics of good character,
and practicing and keeping track of our own character. A typical week here will look like this:
Monday: Journal and Dhikr (Quiet Day)
Tuesday: Discuss Journal and Character Handout of the Week
Wednesday: Simulation Day (Practicing good character)
Thursday: Simulation Day (Practicing good character)
Friday: Salawat and Dhikr Day (Quiet Day)

Heading to Assembly
Insha-Allah, we will head to assembly in an organized fashion. Follow these rules:
1. Put on your Quran bag
2. Create a line at the front of the class from tallest to shortest quietly
3. Head to Staircase to put on your shoes. Stay in line from tallest to shortest in the
stairwell
4. Walk in a straight line to our assembly location.
5. When at our assembly line, spread out and turn around to face the speakers.
