Values life education

1. Advertisements aim to make the reader want to buy what is advertised. If people
are poor, is it fair to make them want to own a flat screen TV, an mp3 player, or a
laptop computer that they cannot afford at all? Will their desire not make them turn
to crime to get the money they want? Explain.

Of course it is fair because they have the right to buy what they want with their
own money. Just because they are considered poor doesn’t mean they can’t own
such gadgets. Owning expensive gadgets isn’t exclusive to people who can only afford
it, it can also be for people who work hard just to buy it. The desire to buy these
things could be one of the reasons why stealing is rampant nowadays but in the end,
it will only depend on the person itself, if he/she would allow that desire to destroy
his/her future.

2. If you are contented with what you have and you do not care to own what you see
in advertisements, will you therefore not try to improve your earning capacity?
Should you be satisfied with what you are and not strive to better yourself so you can
earn more to buy what you see in ads and in the shops? Explain your answer.

My answer would be no. Being content doesn’t mean that you should settle
for a hard life. Life isn’t about advertisements and material things. There are so
much more in life than material wealth. We should never settle for an ‘okay’ life
because all of us have the capacity to go beyond. If you are privileged or given
opportunities then why not work harder? It is better to earn money through your
hard work
3. Many advertisements use exaggerated claims, baseless assumptions, or misleading
information. Should ads stick to the truth? Should the government prosecute
propagandists and manufacturers for dishonesty and lies?

In my own opinion, ads should really stick to the truth because not only
would those lies brainwash people, it could also harm some people. The
government prosecuting propagandists and manufacturers for the dishonesty would
never come because we have this so called “freedom of speech”. It is stated that the
government could never interfere with the media’s way of handling things. In order
to not be fooled, we have to always be careful and never judge that easily.
