FIRST SPEAKER (GOVERNMENT)

A Very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of
the house. We are here today to debate the motion that “This house agrees that kids mental
disorder are caused ONLY by wrong models in the family’. Before we proceed with our
arguments, I would like to first redefine the topic of today’s debate.

We define
Kids are children under 13 years old. Or synonym as child, youngster, little one, young one,
baby, toddler, infant, boy/girl and young person.

MENTAL DISORDER are mentality problems such as Anxiety & panic attacks, Bipolar disorder,
Depression, eating disorders, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Personality disorder, Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Psychosis.

Model is a person looked to by others, as an example to be imitated.

Family is a group consisting of two parents and their children living together as a unit or those
who are blood related or not, or a group consist of people living together and share emotional
support.

Thus, we stand firmly by the topic that This house agrees that kids mental disorder are caused
ONLY by wrong models in the family as it is very obvious in what we had seen, learnt and
search in any source of information.

In order to present our case, I Nur Arfah Amani as the Prime Minister will introduce my
argument in a minute. After that, my 1st Minister, sir Muhammad Afiq Aiman will reaffirm our
stand on the topic and rebut the argument put forward by the Opposition. Then, he will present
TWO more arguments in the premise of today’s topic. Following that, my 3rd Minister, miss
Nurul Syakirah will rebut ALL the arguments made by the Opposition and reaffirm our stand for
this motion. Finally, my second speaker would sum up our case by delivering The Reply Speech.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
To our first point

Kids mental disorder is caused by trauma.

Childhood mental illness may be a reaction to environmental stresses, including trauma like
being the victim of verbal, physical, sexual abuse or any bad environment within family
members.

Basically, the problematic parent usually having a fight in front of their kids. Whenever the war
started to begin, the kids will also be included and this will lead them to emotionally insecure.
Fighting will undermine kids’ sense of security about the stability of the family. Children
exposed to a lot of fighting may worry about divorce or wonder when one parent’s silent
treatment is going to end. It can make it difficult for them to have a sense of normalcy in the
family since fights may be unpredictable.

Children who suffer from child traumatic stress have been exposed to one or more traumas
over the course of their lives and develop reactions that affect their daily lives after the
traumatic events have ended. Not all children exposed to a traumatic event will develop
traumatic stress.

Children are individuals and react to situations in their own unique ways. Children who have
experienced a traumatic event sometimes avoid any situation, person or place that reminds
them of the event. Examples of “potentially traumatic events” for children are Physical abuse
and maltreatment, Sexual abuse, Family, school and Death of a loved one, especially a parent or
caretaker. Children exposed to potentially traumatic events can develop chronic traumatic
stress reactions, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and other mental
health issues that can sometimes be misdiagnosed for other disorders.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, so it is very clear that ‘Kids mental disorder is caused by trauma.’
And, before I take my seat, let me reaffirm our stand that ‘This house agrees that kids’ mental
disorder is caused ONLY by wrong models in the family’. But let me remind you - Our fight
does not end here. My ministers will continue fight for this motion and you will see how true
we are.

With that, I thank you.

SECOND SPEAKER (GOVERNMENT)

Thank you, Mr./Madam,

A very good morning to the honourable adjudicators, my worthy opponents and members of
the house. Before I proceed with my arguments, I would like to first re-define the topic of
today’s debate.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To my first point-

Mental illness in families

Mental illnesses in parents represent a risk for children in the family. These children have a
higher risk for developing mental illnesses than other children. When both parents are mentally
ill, the chance is even greater that the child might become mentally ill.

The risk is particularly strong when a parent has one or more of the following: Bipolar Disorder,
an anxiety disorder, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, schizophrenia, alcoholism or other
drug abuse, or depression. Risk can be inherited from parents, through the genes.

An inconsistent, unpredictable family environment also contributes to psychiatric illness in

children. Mental illness of a parent can put stress on the marriage and affect the parenting
abilities of the couple, which in turn can harm the child. Unfortunately, families, professionals,
and society often pay most attention to the mentally ill parent, and ignore the children in the
family. Providing more attention and support to the children of a psychiatrically ill parent is an
important consideration when treating the parent.

Schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is one of mental illness that comes by genetic. It is a chronic and
severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. Scientists have
long known that schizophrenia sometimes runs in families. There are some symptoms that
cause schizophrenia, such as Hallucinations, Delusions, thought disorders which means unusual
or dysfunctional ways of thinking, and Movement disorders which means agitated body
movements.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To our last point is Single Parent,

THIRD SPEAKER-(GOVERNMENT)

WARNING SIGNS FOR KIDS MENTAL DISORDER

● Mood changes. Look for feelings of sadness or withdrawal that last at least
● two weeks or severe mood swings that cause problems in relationships at home or school.
● Intense feelings. Be aware of feelings of overwhelming fear for no reason — sometimes
with a racing heart or fast breathing — or worries or fears intense enough to interfere with
daily activities.
● Behavior changes. These include drastic changes in behavior or personality, as well as
dangerous or out-of-control behavior. Fighting frequently, using weapons and expressing a
desire to badly hurt others also are warning signs.
● Difficulty concentrating. Look for signs of trouble focusing or sitting still, both of which
might lead to poor performance in school.
● Unexplained weight loss. A sudden loss of appetite, frequent vomiting or use of laxatives
might indicate an eating disorder.
● Physical symptoms. Compared with adults, children with a mental health condition might
develop headaches and stomachaches rather than sadness or anxiety.
● Physical harm. Sometimes a mental health condition leads to self-injury, also called self-
harm. This is the act of deliberately harming your own body, such as cutting or burning
yourself. Children with a mental health condition also might develop suicidal thoughts or
attempt suicide.
● Substance abuse. Some kids use drugs or alcohol to try to cope with their feelings.
