business and 11,437 branches.

New Delhi: The CBI is
conducting "surprise
checks" at 150 government
departments in associa-
tion with the Vigilance De-
partment, an agency o�-
cial said on Friday.
The checks are being
conducted since morning
at the departments, in-
cluding the Railways,
BSNL, shipping, the Air-
port Authority of India,
coal mines and coal fields,
the Food Corporation of
India, customs, power,
municipal corporation,
cantonment boards, trans-
port, the Central Public
Works Department, the di-
rectorate of states, fire, in-
dustries, GST, port trusts,
the Directorate of Audio-
Visual Publicity, the Direc-
torate General of Foreign

tariats between September 1 and 8, to be
careful about the instructions given on
their hall tickets as well as on the question
paper.
No candidate will be allowed inside the
exam centre after 10 am for the morning
exam and 2 pm for the afternoon exam,
he informed, during an interview to The
Hans India on Friday at his office at Tade-
palli in Guntur district.
He advised the students to check the
location of exam centre in advance and
also reach the centre early to avoid last
minute rush. Candidates will be allowed
into the exam centre half-an-hour before
the commencement of the exam.
If the hall tickets do not show photo or
show blurred photo or photo without sig-
nature, then they should bring 3 passport
size photos duly attested by Gazetted Of-
ficer and hand over the same to invigilator
at the examination hall, failing which the
candidates would not be admitted to the
examination, Girija Shankar made it
clear.
The candidates are advised to use ei-
ther blue or black ball pens only in the
examination on OMR sheets. using pencil,
ink pen and gel pen are strictly prohibited
and the answer sheets will not be vali-
dated, if the candidates use them.
Using of whitener is also strictly pro-
hibited. He said that the names of candi-
dates will be printed on the OMR sheets
well in advance. Candidates have to write
the question booklet series on the OMR
sheet, which is mandatory. If the OMR

and they will be sent to the exam centres
on the date of exam with security.
On the other hand, Girija Shankar

mours over the leakage of exam papers or
malpractices. He urged the candidates to

per the new guidelines in the

KRMB allocates water to TS, AP

Hyderabad: With abundant water available in the River Krishna this
monsoon season, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB)
on Friday allocated 59 tmcft of water to Telangana State and 152
tmcft to Andhra Pradesh to meet the irrigation and drinking water
needs in September.
The orders issued by the Board said that 100 tmcft of water will be
released from Srisailam reservoir and 52 tmcft from Nagarjunasagar
to Andhra Pradesh. As much as 88 tmcft of water would be released
for Chennai drinking water needs and Pothireddypadu regulator and
12 tmcft of water will be utilised by Muchumarri lift scheme.
For Telangana, 14.5 tmcft of water will be released from Srisailam
and 44.51 tmcft of water from Nagarjunasagar. As much as 14.5 tmcft
of water will be utilised for drinking water needs including 5.90 tmcft
will be earmarked for Hyderabad. As much 2.08 tmcft of water will
be allocated to supply drinking water in villages under Mission Bha-
giratha.

Vijayawada: TDP staged protests
across the state on Friday demand-
ing the government to solve the
sand scarcity problem and take
steps to resume construction ac-
tivity which provides livelihood to
20 lakh workers.
On the occasion, police kept sev-
eral TDP leaders, including MLAs,
MLCs and former MLAs under
house arrest. Tense situation pre-
vailed for some time when the po-
lice prevented TDP leaders from
coming out of thier houses while
they raised slogans against the gov-
ernment.
TDP general secretary and for-
mer minister Nara Lokesh took
part in the protest in Mangalagiri
town in Guntur district. Speaking
on the occasion, Lokesh said that
the people heard about ‘Tughlaq
rule’ in history but now Y S Jagan
Mohan Reddy was showing it to
the people. “He asked people give
him once chacne. After giving him
the chacne, now the people are wit-
nessing Tughlaq rule,” he said and
demanded that the government
pay Rs 60,000 per each construc-
tion worker who lost their liveli-
hood for the last three months.

Vijayawada: Police on Friday

agitation organised by the
Communist Party of India
(CPI) demanding that the gov-
ernment immediately restore
sand supply in the State.
Several hundred CPI ac-
tivists, mutha workers and
others began the Chalo Amar-
avati march from Hanuman-
pet and they were on their way
to lay siege to the State Secre-
tariat.
The CPI leaders demanded
that the government immedi-
ately restore the sand quarries
and supply sand for the con-
struction activity. The CPI ac-
tivists earlier staged protests
in the city against the closure
of sand quarries in the district.

former Chief Minister Y S Ra-
jasekhara Reddy. Subsequently,

units. Initially, seven thermal
power projects were proposed in
the coastal areas of the district.
Simhapuri with 1,920 MW, AP
Genco with 2,400 MW,
Meenakshi 1,000 MW, SembCorp
had initiated SembCorp Energy
India Limited and it established
a thermal power plant in
Muthukur mandal with four 660-
megawatt supercritical coal-fired
units. The plants have a total in-
stalled capacity of 2,640
megawatts equivalent to about
40 pc of the daily energy demand
of Andhra Pradesh.
Supercritical technology al-
lows operating at lower emission
levels compared to subcritical
power plants. In addition, the
plants use sea water for their
power generation operations,
which eliminates the need to use
belt systems.
Genco initially proposed
2X800 MW plants and dedicated
them to the nation in 2016 and
foundation was also laid for the
third unit. The plant adopted the
design of supercritical technol-
ogy for generating power similar
to the SembCorp. Now, these
units are jointly generating ther-
mal power of around 5,000 MW.
“The statements of the o�cials
and politicos were only self-
boasting and the situation is not
encouraging now. Out of planned
generation of power of 15,000
MW, now only 5,000 MW is being

Canara Bank will create the fourth
largest public sector bank with Rs 15.20
lakh crore business and a branch net-
work of 10,324. Andhra Bank and Cor-

The merger of Allahabad Bank with
Indian Bank will create the seventh

Bank of India and Central Bank of In-
dia will continue to operate as before.
Last year, the government had
merged Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank
with Bank of Baroda, creating the
third-largest bank by loans in the coun-
try.
After the mergers, the country will
have 12 public sector banks, including
State Bank of India and Bank of Bar-
oda. Also, Indian Overseas Bank, Uco
Bank, Bank of Maharashtra and Pun-
jab and Sind Bank, which have strong
regional focus, will continue as sepa-
rate entities.
The Finance Minister also unveiled

banks, saying their boards will be given
autonomy and enabled to do succes-
sion planning.

Hyderabad: Former minister and
Congress senior leader Nagam Ja-
nardhan Reddy on Friday made it
clear the Palamuru–Ranga Reddy
project construction was going at
snail’s pace due to the corruption
and not because of cases being filed
by Congress.
Addressing the media along with
PCC vice president Mallu Ravi he
said that rampant corruption has
taken place in the project and he has
four rooms full of evidence docu-
ments to prove his point. He said
that if the Chief Minister gives one
hour to him, he would expose the
corrupt deals under the project.
Janardhan Reddy said that the
time was running out for the Chief
Minister and government would col-
lapse at any point of time. He said
that after the fall of the government
Chandrashekar Rao would be put
behind the bars. He alleged that the
lift irrigation projects have been con-
structed only to loot the public
money. He alleged that the pumps
and motors which cost Rs 3,000
crores have been bought at Rs 8,000
crores.
Janardhan Reddy alleged that
even after spending thousands of
crores of rupees to buy the pumps
inferior quality equipment has been
fitted. He said that there was no stan-
dard rates procedure for the pur-
chase of pumps.
He alleged that the tenders of the
project have been awarded to work
agencies which did not have any
qualification. A work agency which
was given work worth Rs 3,200
crores has done work worth of Rs 80
crores.
He wondered how it would be
possible to give water to reservoirs
under Palamuru–Ranga Reddy proj-
ect without completing the first lift.
He said that the idea to lift water
from Srisailam backwaters was fool-
ish. He questioned the Chief Minis-
ter as why it was not possible to lift
water from Jurala which has 6 TMC
of water whereas the water lifted at
Medigadda which has only two TMC
of water. He said that about 75,000
cusecs of water flow for a month at
Jurala in monsoon season and
10,000 cusecs could be diverted eas-
ily.

the Muslim stakes in the political power structure
are more tenuous than ever before.

Court that the Allahabad High Court
had concluded that Babri Masjid was
a Shia waqf, and its order said that
one-thirds of the disputed land

go to Shias, "and we are ready to give

Board never claimed any adverse
possession, and were also not con-
testing the claims of the Hindus. "Be-

Jain, appearing for the Hindu Ma-
hasabha, told the court that Mughal

ferring to the end of Mughal Empire.
Jain also claimed that there is no
oral or documentary evidence to es-
tablish that the structure at the dis-
puted site between 1528 and 1855
was referred to as a mosque.
"During the British period, be-
tween 1855 and 1945, the structure
was referred as a mosque to draw
communal lines between two sec-
tions of the society," he told the Con-
stitution bench.
Earlier during the day, senior ad-
vocate PN Mishra, appearing for the
Sri Ramjanmabhumi Punarudhar
Samiti, told the apex court that there
were bells on the premises of Babri
Masjid, which indicated it could not
have been a mosque, as under Is-
lamic law, bells are forbidden in
mosques.
He cited several "anomalies" ap-

urging him to take swift action to
stop wrongful sale of "deadly"
products.
"Unquestionably, Amazon is
falling short of its commitment to
keeping safe those consumers
who use its massive platform," the
three Senate Democrats wrote in
the latter sent to Bezos on Thurs-

cent investigation by the Wall
Street Journal that found more
than 4,000 items for sale on Ama-
zon's site that "have been declared
unsafe by federal agencies, are de-

and cosmetics incorrectly labelled

woodish style flick, with action,

all, the Hindi belt, which had

‘Saaho’ starts o� stylishly and in-
terestingly. The veneer to the
proceedings has a di�erent feel
for sure as the super heroism of
the protagonist is smug and as-
sured.

TechNEX 2019, the second edition of IT Fest was being organized.
This two-day event was a true amalgamation of technology and hu-
man spark. The event was inaugurated by G. Jagadish Reddy, Educa-
tion Minister, Govt. of Telangana, Malka Komaraiah, Chairman DPS,
and Malka Pallavi, Director, DPS.
Other dignitaries present were C.V.D. Ramprasad, Director – Soft-
ware Technology Parks of India,. Praveena Bhimavarapu, Vice Pres-

To address this issue, technology is
the only most e�ective to improve the
educational standards of the schools.
So, equipping the schools with digital
technology is not enough, but it is sig-
nificant to be integrated into the peda-
gogical methods as it has shown to im-
prove average grades and learning
outcomes. Based on recent budgetary
outlays and pronouncements in parlia-
ment it appears there is serious intent
to equip schools with IT capability.
One of the most popular models for
integration is the Substitution-Aug-
mentation-Modification-Redefinition
(SAMR) model. The first stage is the re-
placement of manual practices with in-
formation and communication tech-
nologies (ICT) based ones such as usage
substitution but with functional im-
provements. This includes usage of
word processors with spell checkers
and using search engines. In order to
equip schools with IT capabilities that
could solve government schools reading
crisis.
Empowering teachers is cri�cal:
Teachers play significant role in carv-
ing the career of children and technol-
ogy innovations can also reduce the role
of teacher but improves the educational
standards of children. However, the
teachers must continue in digital class
rooms with the aid or using the tech-
nology platform provided.
A student- teacher centered ap-
proach could include the use of online
tutoring systems to helping students

signing and delivering curriculum. It
must be kept in mind while designing
curriculum, align students proficiency
with curriculum, so that syllabus goals
are achieved. Without evaluating stu-
dents’ proficiency, designing curricu-
lum out of standard may led to students
in dizzy.
Integrate with class schedule
The schools must equip with digital
libraries that allow the students to read
the existing textbooks during the nor-
mal periods through their laptops or
computers, so as to not increase time in
schools for students as well teachers.

tal books after going to home to refer
the digital books to learn more on math-
ematics problem solutions and even re-
fer other books which are not covered
under syllabus.

vealed that after-school intervention
for students in the 6-10 grades noticed
twice the progress in mathematics, and
2.5 times the progress in Hindi com-
pared to the students who weren’t on
the intervention.

at 4.3 per cent in January-March
quarter of 2012-13.

Andhra Bank set to slip into history

Established on November 20,
1923 by Bhogaraju Pattabhi
Sitaramayya, an ardent freedom
fighter at Machilipatnam, a port
town in coastal Andhra Pradesh,
the bank has a historical and pa-
triotic background. The premier
bank was started with a paid-up
capital of Rs 1 lakh and an au-
thorised capital of Rs 10 lakh.
In 1956, linguistic division of
States was promulgated, and
Hyderabad was made the capital
of Andhra Pradesh. The regis-
tered office of the bank was sub-
sequently shifted to Andhra
Bank Buildings, Sultan Bazar,
Hyderabad. Its current head of-
fice is in Saifabad in the city.

tionalisation of commercial
banks commenced in April 1980,
the bank became a wholly
owned Government bank. In

face is the unreasonable amount
of GST that we are forced to pay
on our fee or commission. At
present, GST on brokerage
charges is 18 per cent, which is
very high and equal to nearly
one-fifth of our commission.
High GST is grossly unfair. So,
nobody including developers,
wants to pay it. We are being
asked to either include in our fee
or take in cash to avoid GST pay-
ment. If we include the tax in
our commission, we will
straightaway lose 18 per cent in-
come. Further, we don't want to
take cash as it leads to unac-
counted money which goes
against the policies initiated by
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
to eliminate black money. PM

are committed to it.
What is the reasonable GST you
people can pay?
Ideally, 5 per cent GST on bro-
kerage is reasonable. We are
okay with that. It is the world-
wide experience that taxes are
considered fair if payee thinks
they are fair. Further, compli-
ance is highest when tax is rea-
sonable. People tend to avoid tax
if it is on higher side. However,
there may not be strong resist-
ance if the government reduces
GST to 12 per cent, at least. But
18 per cent is too high. In some
markets, the exorbitant tax is
driving growth of unaccounted
or black money.
What about RERA registration?
You seem to have some issue
with it.
Apart from GST, the other
area of immense concern for us
is RERA. Under current RERA

real estate brokers. What is your take on such services?
People like nobroker.com is trying to disrupt the market by
saying that they charge no brokerage. But that’s not true. They
are charging brokerage from builder or seller. The fact of the
matter is that it is not possible to offer professional service
without charging a fee. But what pains us the most is that such
portals have come out with targeted advertisements against us
and are trying to belittle our brokerage profession through in-
sulting messages. Some of the messages they convey through
their advertisements are ugly. One such derogatory slogan is ‘no
dogs allowed; no brokers allowed’. Such messages are neither
civil, nor fair.
Has your association approached the governments to initiate
action against such websites for degrading your profession?
Our point is that if someone offers services at zero brokerage
charge, that’s their way of doing business. We have no issue with
that. But they should not issue advertisements denigrating us.
We have not said anything against anybody. How can their use
unparliamentary language against us and to describe what we
are doing? All of our members are registered with RERA and
are trained in best global practices. We also have a code of
ethics which nobody else has. We have well-established stan-
dards of giving service to customers across the country. We can
give multi-city solutions, which many people can’t. If the gov-
ernment brings out a law to rein the websites from using
derogatory language against us, it will be well and good. It is un-
fair on part of anyone to run down the profession of others. We
are talking to the powers-that-be on this issue. We are hopeful
that we will get justice.
How many such websites are there in the market?
I think there are four to five such websites in the market. I
don’t want to give them the dignity of naming them. But no serv-
ice can be offered free. Why do people buy stocks through stock-
brokers or wealth advisors? We are also wealth advisors. People
invest their lifesavings into buying a house. We are advising
them as to where they need to put their hard-earned money.

BFI allows pro boxers ISSF WORLD CUP

to compete in domestic
amateur events with
immediate e�ect
New Delhi (PTI): The Boxing Federation of
India (BFI) has decided to allow profes-
sional boxers to compete in amateur tour-
naments sanctioned by it, bringing itself in
sync with the stand taken by world body
AIBA.
The decision was taken at a BFI Execu-
tive Committee meeting on Thursday and
is applicable with immediate effect. The
national championships for men are
scheduled to be held in October, followed
by the women's tournament and both the
events might see participation by pro box-
ers for the first time.
“...in the recently concluded Executive
Committee meeting it was discussed and
decided that since the International Boxing
Association (AIBA) is allowing such relax-
ations, BFI too allows similar relaxations
for such boxers to participate in the
State/National or Inter-Department tour-
naments,” stated a letter from BFI Secre-
tary General Jay Kowli to all member
states and units.
“This decision will be applicable with im-
mediate effect and all boxers who have
played professionally in the past can seek
relief under this note,” the letter, which is
in PTI’s possession, added.
It also states that the concession will not
be extended to boxers who are participating
in tournaments organised by “unautho-
rised” bodies. The BFI did not specify further
but it is learnt that stance is meant for box-
ers who registered to compete in events or-
ganised by the terminated Indian Amateur
Boxing Federation (IABF), which has unsuc-
cessfully tried to get the status of being the
official body to run the sport in the country.
“Such Boxers will still need to apply to
BFI through their respective BFI Member
Unit/s for a ‘No Objection Certificate’,” the
letter stated.
The latest move opens the doors for box-
ers, who are plying their trade in the pro
circuit to compete in the amateur events
here even at the departmental level.
India’s most prominent crossover to the
pro side has been Vijender Singh, who is
currently competing in the US circuit. How-
ever, he is unlikely to return to the ama-
teur events despite the concessions now.
The AIBA allowed professional boxers to
compete in the Olympics months before
the 2016 edition in Rio de Janeiro and even
organised a qualifying tournament for
them. In India, there was no clarity on the
professional boxers’ amateur status until
this recent decision.
Verma wins gold, bronze for Chaudhary

event, with both Verma and Chaud-
hary securing the sports in the previ-
ous qualifying events.
In the qualification round on
Thursday, Chaudhary was fourth with
584 points and Verma entered the fi-
nals in fifth position with 582 points,
while Gaurav Rana was 44th with 571.
