size of the object.
(a) Determine the focal length of the lens.
(b) Where must the object be placed so that a virtual image which is also twice the size of the object is
formed?
4 An inverted image, which is twice the size of the object is produced by a convex lens with a focal length of

5 A convex lens produces a virtual image at a distance of 60 cm from the lens and the size of the image is
three times the size of the object. What is the focal length of the convex lens?

6 An inverted image which is half the size of the object is produced by a convex lens of focal length 15 cm.
Find the object distance.

7 An upright image which is half the size of the object is produced by a concave lens of focal length 20 cm.
Find the object distance.

8 A convex lens has a focal length of 20 cm.

(a) the image distance (b) the image size
22. 4 Exercise (Lensmaker’s equation)

1. Figure below shows a plano-convex lens. The refractive index of the lens is 1.5. Calculate:

(a) the focal length of the lens

(b) the power of the lens

2. Find the focal length of the following positive meniscus lens. Given the refractive index, n. of the
lens is 1.5

and right surfaces of the lens are 20 cm and 15 cm respectively. Calculate the focal length of the
lens.
Exercise ( Image formed by multiple lenses)
