BREB’s Renewable Energy Program “Electricity for all by 2021” isthe vision of Government of Bangladesh. To mitigate Climate Change, Natufal disaster, low uses of fossil fuel etc., Government intends to generate 10% of the country’s total energy demand through Renewable Energy Sources by 2020. To make governments vision a reality Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) is performing with its excellence in ine with the Government directives. [BREB has introduced Solar Home System through the first ever Renewable Energy project in Bangladesh in 1993 which was aided by France. Since then BREB has installed 42,357 nos. Solar Home Systems (SHSs); 17 nos. rooftop/hybrid type rooftop solar power plants; 40 nos, solar powered irigation pumps; and 07 nos. Solar Charging Station. The total capacity of the installed plants are about 6766 kWp. The main objective of BREB Renewable Energy program is piloting new type of renewable energy projects in the context of grid power limitations & promoting the uses of altematives energy source. Considering the financial concept of PBS ie, “No profit, No Loss” and cost effectiveness of solar Systems, grant financing from development partners on renewable energy projects are always preferable. For rechargeable battery operated vehicles like Auto Ricksina, Easy Bike, ete. BREB has installed 07 nos. Solar Charging Stations at different PBSs, Total Installed capacity of the charging stations is 156 kWp. In average, from a 21.0 kWp Solar Charging Station, Per day energy yield is 60 kivh. O7nos more Solar Charging Stations (total capacity will be 147 kWp) at different PBS's are under implementation. Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) has signed a MoU to contribute 50% of the capita(grant) investment for two of them. Large scale implementation of similar model Solar Charging Stations can ‘contribute to the countries energy scenario through saving a huge amount of grid electricity. ADB has allocated USS 20 million as loan and awaiting for US$ 22.22 million SREP grant for this project Following the directives of Power Division, to electrify Rangabali Upazila of Patuakhali District by renewable energy resources through BREB. For the purpose a feasibility study is under process by Power Cell. To electrify remote and off-grid areas through renewable energy sources a list of 1027 off-grid Villages (Commanding areas of BREB) has been sent to SREDA and a MoU has been signed Between BREB & SREDA.
