Writing Task 1

The pie chart shows the causes of worldwide land degradation while the data table represents
the percentage of land degradation by three regions which are North America, Europe, and Oceania
during the 1990s.

Based on the pie chart, over-grazing and deforestation account for 65% of total whereas over-
cultivation is responsible for 28%, 4 times larger than other factors. As is presented in the table data,
degradation in Europe is the highest compared to other two regions having the majority cause is
deforestation standing at 9.8%.

Oceania is the second after Europe account for 13% and the main causes were deforestation
and over-grazing. In this particular region, over-cultivation has no effect. The third region which is
North America, the total land degradation is only 5%. Over-cultivation stands as the major cause, then
over-grazing, and deforestation.

In conclusion, Europe and Oceania had higher land degradation compared to North America.
Main clauses of this were deforestation and over-grazing.

Writing Task 2

Hundred years ago, lots of parents did not allowed their kids to go to school simply because
they thought education wasn’t important as much as work. Lots of them encouraged their kids to work
at the farm, market, et cetera. Rather than losing money on education, they preferred to gain money
from their children. However, it is the 21st century. Things have changed a lot.

Present days, education is most likely to be number one. Parents are on competitions to get
high education for their children. Even the government are putting lots of money to build new
facilities and infrastructures for school. And we can’t leave private school, upgrading, improving their
academic qualities everyday.

There are pros and cons for sending children to school. The obvious pros are they can play
with kids their own age, they can learn on how to build relationship with others, exposure of culture,
chance to be part of a larger community, and many more. On the other hand, the cons are school can
be expensive, exposure to bullying, et cetera. These are what parents must consider.

Family is the first environment of society that we know since birth. They are most likely to
introduce us to society. As kids we tends to imitate our parents actions and behaviours. Sometimes
parent introduce their children to their friends and so it begins. Unfortunately, lots of parents these
days tends to chase work more rather than be with their children. Work to gain money that can make a
better future for their children but at the same time these children need their parents presence. This
action could lead children to wrong direction.

To conclude, parents and school are agents that can teach children to be a good members of
society. There’s a thin line to seperate them. Some things can’t be teach at school and some things
can’t parents give. Both are very important to shape children behaviours.
