Chapter I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Introduction

Alcohol is one of the most widely used drug substances

in the world. Alcohol is a beverage that can help them to

cleanse their body, but if they drink too much there’s a

possibility that they’re losing their self-control, and

besides of that alcohol can help those people who are

mentally and emotionally weak, they can build their self-

esteem. Alcohol is a clear liquid that has a strong smell,

that is used in some medicines and other products, and that

is the substance in liquors that can make a person drunk.

Alcohol travels through your bloodstream and can damage your

brain, stomach, liver, kidneys and muscles. Alcohol is a

drug found in all alcoholic drinks like beer, wine and

spirits such as whiskey and vodka.

As a teenager, your body is still developing, so damage

done to it now can affect the rest of your life. Alcoholic

beverages are drinks that contain the chemical compound of

ethyl alcohol or ethanol, a colorless and flammable liquid.

From the blood the alcohol is distributed to all parts of

the body and has an especially pronounced effect on the

brain, on which it exerts a depressant action. Under the


influence of alcohol, the functions of the brain are

depressed in a characteristic pattern. The influence of it

is the expectation of young people that they will have a lot

of fun if they will drink alcoholic beverages. Drinking

levels of friends is a particularly strong influence,

likelihood increases when most of a young person’s friends

drink. The amount of time spent with friends, and spending

all evenings with friends is particularly influential. And

maybe by family members, invite by their friends,

external factors include environment, social interaction,

age, education, and the status of a person’s life.

The purpose of this research is to study the influences

of youth people to drink alcohol, the researcher need to

conduct a research about alcoholic beverages to study the

influences why students drinking alcoholic beverages. The

researcher also need to conduct a research to develop their

knowledge about the factors of it.

The reason why the researcher choose the topic

alcoholic beverages, simply because all of people know what

alcohol is, some of them has experience about it, and the

researcher want to know more how many students are

influenced by their surroundings, and also the effects of it

in their lives. And we are motivated to conduct this kind of


study, because we are curious why students are drinking too

much and what are their feelings and thoughts about alcohol.

Nowadays, young people drink alcohol because they have

a lot of problems, pressure, and maybe depression. And we

expected to gain a result based on the influences of

drinking alcoholic beverages.

Statement of the Problem

This study aim to determine what and who are the

influences of drinking alcoholic beverages in the Senior

High School students.

1.3 Economic status;
2. What are the factors why the respondents are drinking

alcoholic beverages
2.1 How does your drinking habit can help you through

with your problems?


2.2 In what ways you are influence to drink alcoholic

beverages?
2.3 Is drinking help you to release the stress you

had?
2.4 How does alcohol make you relaxed and free from

anxiety?

Scope and Delimitation


The focused of this study is to know the factors and

influences why students drinking alcoholic beverages, Senior

High School students in Holy Cross College were selected to

be the respondents of this study in this year 2020.

Significance of the Study

This study will be beneficial to the following:

To the Students. The result of this study will help

them to increase their awareness about the influences why

student drink, and for them to be aware of their vices, and

they will be able to remind themselves that drinking too

much have many impact in their lives and in their health.

Parents. This study will help the parents to encourage

their children to avoid drinking alcohol, parents will

definitely know what are the factors that influence their

children to drink alcohol. And by that, they’ll have a

connection and nice relationship to each other.

Teachers. The result of this study can help them to

encourage their students to avoid their drinking habit, and

for them to know how many students are drinking and

addicted now to alcohol, and remind themselves to be a good

model to everyone they interact with, and besides of that

the teachers can avoid too from drinking too much.


School Management. This study can help the school

management to remind the school facilities, faculty members,

and the teachers to be aware of their students and

surroundings, and they can make a program for them to

convince or motivate the students not to drink alcohol.

Future Researchers. This study will help them to be

wise about the possible influence why students drink

alcoholic beverages, and this study serve as a guide in

their own research work.

As what can be seen, the first graph is the input, this is

the profile of the respondents wherein they will answer that

by their own. Next, the second one is the process, in this

graph it illustrates who are the respondents of the study

and the researcher summarize and narrate what the study is

Definition of Terms

In order to give a congruent or common definition, the

following terms were defined. To be able for the readers to

read it clearly.
Psychoactive drug. This means a drug that can

alter the consciousness, mood, and thoughts of those who use

them. A clear liquid that can make you drunk.

Ethanol. A colorless volatile flammable liquid that is

the intoxicating agent in liquors and is also used as a

solvent and in fuel-called also ethyl alcohol, grain

alcohol.

Malt Liquor. A fermented liquor (such as beer) made

with malt.

Ale. An alcoholic beverage brewed especially by rapid

fermentation from an infusion of malt with the addition of

hops.

Teachers. The result of this study can help them to

encourage their students to avoid their drinking habit, and

remind themselves to be a good model to everyone they
