2. IEC 61850 introduction IEC 61850 configuration instructions

2. IEC 61850 introduction

The IEC 61850 protocol is available with the optional inbuilt Ethernet port. The
IEC 61850 protocol can be used to read/write static data from the device or to
receive events and to receive/send GOOSE messages from/to other devices.

The IEC 61850 server interface supports the following features:

• configurable data model: selection of logical nodes corresponding to active
application functions
• configurable pre-defined data sets
• dynamic data sets created by clients
• reporting function with buffered and unbuffered report control blocks
• control model: direct with normal security and with enhanced security, SBO
with normal and with enhanced security
• horizontal communication with GOOSE: configurable GOOSE publisher data
sets, configurable filters for GOOSE subscriber inputs, GOOSE inputs
available in the application logic and output matrix
• 32 data points can be published with GOOSE (two goose control blocks with
maximum 16 data points).
• 64 binary data points and five analog data points can be subscribed in
GOOSE (maximum five different MAC addresses).
• The maximum number of clients is eight (the maximum number of BRCBs is
eight and the maximum number or URCBs is eight).
• Both Edition 1 and Edition 2 are supported and can be selected with a
parameter.

The inbuilt Ethernet is available as a communication option. For more information,

see the manuals of the individual devices.

P3APS19001EN 5

3. IEC 61850 configuration

The configuration of the IEC 61850 protocol is done with the eSetup Easergy Pro
setting and configuration tool (later called Easergy Pro). Easergy Pro can be
connected to the device either with an USB cable to the front panel port or via the
Ethernet network. Furthermore, an ICD (IED Capability Description) file can be
generated with Easergy Pro.

3.1. IEC 61850 main configuration parameters

When the IEC 61850 protocol has been activated, the IEC 61850 main config
setting view becomes selectable in the Communication sub-menu in Easergy
Pro. The first part of the view contains 61850 parameters that normally do not
need to be changed. The IED Name parameter is a unique identifier and must be
set differently for each device connected to the same network.

3.2. Selecting the logical nodes and data sets for event reporting
Logical nodes may appear or hide in the data maps of devices that can be set to
different protection modes (motor, generator, or feeder). Therefore, it is
recommended to set the required protection functions for the devices before
configuring the IEC-61850 protocol.

NOTE: The data maps may contain logical nodes that are not functional in the
device that is being configured. See the device’s manual for information on
what functions are really operational in the device type being configured.

1. Go to IEC 61850 data map (x).

8 P3APS19001EN
3. IEC 61850 configuration IEC 61850 configuration instructions

2. Set the In use field of the needed logical nodes to Yes.

3. Select to which pre-defined data set the data from the given function is
assigned (for example for reporting purposes): set Dataset x to Yes.

NOTE: If there is no special reason to use many data sets, use only data
set 1.

4. Edit the Description field of the selected function, if necessary.

This description is visible in the IEC 61850 data model – in d attribute of
NamPlt data in the LN.

3.3. Data sets

Data sets are assigned to report control blocks in the IEC 61850 BRCB
configuration and IEC 61850 URCB configuration setting views. An Easergy
P3 device has three predefined data sets (DS1, DS2 and DS3) that can be
assigned to one or more of the eight buffered report control blocks (BRCB 1–8)
and to one or more of the eight unbuffered report control blocks (URCB 1–8).

Some clients may create their own, so-called dynamic data sets and assign them
to report control blocks. Both persistent and non-persistent dynamic data sets are
supported. They can be viewed with Easergy Pro. IEC 61850 client tool software
is needed for creating them.

3.4. Defining the measurement configuration settings

You can configure the deadband values, deadband integration time and unit
multipliers used by the IEC 61850 protocol in the Communication > IEC 61850
Measurement Config setting view in Easergy Pro.
• There are two variants of the deadband calculation: absolute deadband and
integrated deadband. To select absolute deadband, set the Deadband
integration time to zero.
• Set the deadband values with caution. Too small values may cause
unnecessary overhead in the data transfer.

P3APS19001EN 9
IEC 61850 configuration instructions 3. IEC 61850 configuration

Example: If the Current I deadband value is set to 5 A and Integration

time is set to 0 (absolute deadband), the change condition is satisfied
when the value changes more than 5 A from the previously reported
value. If, on the other hand, the integration time is set to 1, the change
condition is satisfied for instance if the signal value changes more than 1
A from the previously reported value and remains at that level for five
seconds.

3.5. Generic events

You can also configure so-called generic events to map any application events of
the device to maximum eight indication data objects of the EvtGGIO183 logical
node of the IEC 61850 interface. The status of the indication data object is
determined by ON and OFF events set for the corresponding index in the table.

NOTE: If only an "ON event" is defined for an indication, the transition to OFF
state is generated automatically after reporting the ON state (momentary ON
state). And the same applies if only an "OFF event" is defined for an indication
(momentary OFF state).

3.6. Configuring IEC 61850 communication for a single Ethernet

connection
Follow this procedure to configure IEC 61850 commuinication for a single
Ethernet connection. The device’s physical ports 1 and 2 are for single Ethernet
connection – you can use either of them.

1. Define the Ethernet port settings under Communication > Protocol

configuration > Ethernet port.

communication is restarted after a break:
◦ If not selected, event reporting continues from the point where the
connection was broken.
◦ If selected, event reporting sends all the reports in the buffer.

In both cases, the IEC 61850 client may change the behavior before reporting
is restarted.

IEC 61850 configuration instructions 4. GOOSE communication configuration

4. GOOSE communication configuration

Binary or analog signals can be sent and received as GOOSE data. One device
can send a maximum of two GOOSE data packets containing 16 data points.
Thus, the maximum number of data points that can be sent from one device is 32.
Goose control block 1 (GCB1) and Goose control block 2 (GCB2) are used to
control the sending of these two GOOSE data packets.
GOOSE data is multi-casted to the Ethernet network. The multicast MAC
Address, Application ID and Configuration Revision are the main parameters
when routing the information from one device to the other.

The MAC address used in GOOSE communication is independent of the MAC

addresses of the devices in the Ethernet network.

One device can receive a maximum of 64 binary GOOSE data values and five
analog data values. The binary data values can be utilized in the device’s internal
logic and output matrix and are named GOOSE NI1…GOOSE NI64. The analog
values can be used as input to the programmable stages. They are shown in the
local mimic and are named VAI1…VAI15.

The main parameters of the GOOSE communication are available in the GOOSE
configuration setting view.

8. Appendix: Blocking example

Number of GOOSE to subscribe to:
• Each P3 can subscribe up to 64 APPID (publishers) from up to five MAC
addresses
• Maximum number of GOOSE messages to be processed at the same time:
each GOOSE control block (GCB) or APP ID is processed typically in 7 ms
(minimum is 3.5 and maximum 10 ms).
• Typical blocking scheme on a busbar:
◦ Because each GOOSE sent from any feeder has the same function
(blocking the subscriber overcurrent protection), the blocking happens
upon the reception of the first GOOSE received.
◦ For example, if there are 32 feeders:
– Fault on any line: A single GOOSE is sent by the device seeing the
fault.
– This GOOSE is processes by the incomer device, typically in 7 ms
(min. 3.5 ms and max. 10 ms).

Figure 25 - Typical blocking scheme

Fault on the bottom bar: The 32 GOOSE messages are sent by all the
devices seeing the fault.
• The first received GOOSE is processed by the incomer device in 7 ms (min.
3.5 ms and max. 10 ms
• The last one is processed by the incomer device typically in 224 ms but it
does not matter.
• The recommendation is to use one GOOSE control block (CGB) (MAC
address) per blocking scheme.

Medium-voltage performance requirements

• GOOSE used to trip are class P2 (10 ms) (not usually used)
• GOOSE used for fast automation are class P3 (20 ms) (such as blocking
scheme or breaker failure)
• GOOSE used for automation are class P4 (100 ms)

Conclusion

P3 is suitable to perform:
• Either:
◦ Class P3 fast automation scheme up to three different functions/
applications per subscriber each subscribing up to 64 publishers (without
quality bits).
◦ Class P4 automation scheme up to five different functions/applications per
subscriber each subscribing up to 64 publishers (without quality bits).
• Or:
◦ Class P3 fast automation scheme up to three different functions/
applications per subscriber each subscribing up to 32 publishers (with
quality bits).
◦ Class P4 automation scheme up to five different functions/applications per
subscriber each subscribing up to 32 publishers (with quality bits).
