IEC 61850 configuration instructions 1. About this manual
1.1. Purpose
This document gives you instructions on how to configure IEC 61850, GOOSE,
FTP, and HTTP communication for Easergy P3 devices.
Term Description
CID file Configured IED Description file. A type of SCL file used to enable
communication between an IED configuration tool and an IED.
ICD file IED capability description file. A type of SCL file that defines the complete
capability of an IED.
IEC 61850 IEC 61850 is a standard for vendor-agnostic engineering of the configuration
of intelligent electronic devices for electrical substation automation systems
to be able to communicate with each other.
IID file Instantiated IED description file. A type of SCL file that defines the
configuration of one IED for a project and is used as data exchange format
from the IED configurator to the system configurator.

3.2. Selecting the logical nodes and data sets for event reporting
Logical nodes may appear or hide in the data maps of devices that can be set to
different protection modes (motor, generator, or feeder). Therefore, it is
recommended to set the required protection functions for the devices before
configuring the IEC-61850 protocol.
NOTE: The data maps may contain logical nodes that are not functional in the
device that is being configured. See the device’s manual for information on
what functions are really operational in the device type being configured.

3. IEC 61850 configuration IEC 61850 configuration instructions
3. Select to which pre-defined data set the data from the given function is
assigned (for example for reporting purposes): set Dataset x to Yes.
NOTE: If there is no special reason to use many data sets, use only data
set 1.

Dataset 1 Yes/No Select which data sets are used to send events from
the function
Dataset 2 Yes/No Select which data sets are used to send events from
the function
Dataset 3 Yes/No Select which data sets are used to send events from
the function
Some clients may create their own, so-called dynamic data sets and assign them
to report control blocks. Both persistent and non-persistent dynamic data sets are
supported. They can be viewed with Easergy Pro. IEC 61850 client tool software
is needed for creating them.

NOTE: If only an "ON event" is defined for an indication, the transition to OFF
state is generated automatically after reporting the ON state (momentary ON
state). And the same applies if only an "OFF event" is defined for an indication
(momentary OFF state).

Ensure that the communication port for Ethernet Protocol 2 is not enabled.
NOTE: IEC 61850 can only be set to use one port. If both ports are
enabled, different protocols must be chosen.

3. In the IED Name field, write a unique name that describes the device’s
location and function.
4. Set Control mode for object nodes according to the MMS client settings.
6. Select the checkbox for Technical issue 453 in Ed. 1 if this technical issue
needs to be fixed.

This selection selects the way in which event reporting behaves when
communication is restarted after a break:
◦ If not selected, event reporting continues from the point where the
connection was broken.
◦ If selected, event reporting sends all the reports in the buffer.
In both cases, the IEC 61850 client may change the behavior before reporting
is restarted.
NOTE: The rest of the parameters are pre-configured and shall only be
changed by experts.

IEC 61850 configuration instructions 4. GOOSE communication configuration
One device can receive a maximum of 64 binary GOOSE data values and five
analog data values. The binary data values can be utilized in the device’s internal
logic and output matrix and are named GOOSE NI1…GOOSE NI64. The analog
values can be used as input to the programmable stages. They are shown in the
local mimic and are named VAI1…VAI15.
The main parameters of the GOOSE communication are available in the GOOSE
configuration setting view.

3. In Communication > IEC 61850 data map(x), select the In use checkbox for
logical nodes (LN) that contain the data to be published.

4. In the Communication > GOOSE GCB1: data points > DSG1 Data
configuration setting view, define the following settings:
◦ In the Signal column, select the data to be published, for example Logic1.
◦ Include quality in dataset:
– Leave the checkbox empty: only the datapoint (value) is sent
– Select the checkbox: the quality bits of all the linked data are added to
the GOOSE dataset in the following index and both the datapoint
(value) and the quality bits are sent; datapoint (value) in index (x) and
quality bits in index (x+1)
– Example:

are set and in OK status. It is mandatory to select “None” for non-
selected data.

IEC 61850 configuration instructions 8. Appendix: Blocking example
Fault on the bottom bar: The 32 GOOSE messages are sent by all the
devices seeing the fault.
• The first received GOOSE is processed by the incomer device in 7 ms (min.
3.5 ms and max. 10 ms
• The last one is processed by the incomer device typically in 224 ms but it
does not matter.
• The recommendation is to use one GOOSE control block (CGB) (MAC
address) per blocking scheme.
