---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.Eric Avery
a. Favorite piece and why?
My favorite piece is Johnny Garret is dead because of the story behind it and the
look of the print
b. Issue addressed and how?
The issue that was addressed was the death penalty given to Johnny Garret, and
how many people (college students) advocated for his death despite the church
not wanting the death penalty (Johnny Garret had killed a member of the church).
This issue was addressed through his print showing the two types of protests
happening in front of the Jail (AI protests and Advocates for his death). It also
displays the advocates as violent, and the protestors as peaceful and together.
c. Techniques/symbolism/art elements used?
The shadow of the grim reaper in the picture is symbolic for Johnny’s impending
death

2.Sue Coe
a. Favorite piece and why?
My favorite piece is tweeter in chief because of the bold message in the piece
and the symbolism represented
b. Issue addressed and how?
The issue addressed is the beliefs of the current presidency. She addressed this
by showing a checklist of things Trump believes in. She crosses over news for
fake news, a microscope for science, and a person in a hijab to represent
immigrants.
c. Techniques/symbolism/art elements used?
Some examples of symbolism include the man labeled GOP licking Trump’s boot
representing the republican party, The checklist representing priorities, and the
title representing a criticism of the president by the artist.

3.Kathe Kollwitz
a. Favorite piece and why?
I like Outbreak because it portrays an interesting story of the peasant rebellion by
“Black Anna” a female revolutionary
b. Issue addressed and how?
The issue addressed was the oppression of lower class people, and this was
addressed through the prints depiction of the peasants charging while being
instigated by “Black Anna”
c. Techniques/symbolism/art elements used?
The woman in the middle is symbolic for the female revolutionary “Black Anna”
Lack of detail on the charging army makes them look like one solid group instead
of separate people
