Section 3. Recommendation Questions

1. Please provide a brief description of your interaction with the applicant and, if applicable, the applicant’s role
in your organization. (Up to 50 words)

I belong to the Purchase & Projects group at Reliance Jio, handling purchase of all electronic and electrical
equipments. I’ve known Ms. Pranita since January 2017 as a Sales Executive from L&T - vendor to RIL. We interact
on weekly basis to review order statuses, future requirements, and critical deliverables.
2. How does the performance of the applicant compare to that of other well-qualified individuals in similar roles?
(E.g. what are the applicant’s principal strengths?) (Up to 500 words)

Ms. Pranita is one of the youngest and most accomplished sales team members from across the vendor network
(manufacturers & service providers) that we source from.

We do substantial business with L&T, and throughout these business dealings, our interaction spans right from
RFP, techno-commercial negotiations, goods receipt, all the way to payment release. Most vendors have
function-wise teams with each subject-matter-experts handling respective areas. But in her case, Pranita manages
all these facets single-handedly.

Pranita is required to interact with many different groups from our company – covering engineering, procurement,
project planning, site-construction, supply chain and finance. She comprehends and prioritizes our requirements
and translates them seamlessly to her back-end teams.
Besides, we also find dealing with Pranita more comfortable as compared to that with her predecessors.

In addition to this, she has strong people management skills. Since we have a pan India presence, covering around
400 locations across India, Pranita is required to interact with the concerned teams at these sites, with the nature of
these interactions being vastly diverse. However, she seems to manage this without hiccups.

Considering the fast turn-around from her backend teams, it appears that she has a good hold on her internal teams
as well.

One thing that I have noticed is Pranita uses her knowledge and experiences optimally to arrive at solutions.
We had acquired an old data centre which comprised of a large number of switchboards. This data centre was not
functional for some time. We approached L&T for its revamp. Pranita got the complete data centre set-up studied
through her team. After analysing the reports & performing a cost-benefit analysis, she suggested an optimal
solution. Instead of going for a complete revamp, she suggested grouping the switchboards into two categories -
one which could be retrofitted and maintained without significant investments and the other which needed to be
replaced totally with new switchboards due to significantly higher maintenance cost.
This demonstrated that in spite of her primary role being Sales, Pranita keeps our best interests in mind, something
that is rare in today’s competitive world.
3. Describe the most important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant. Please detail the
circumstances and the applicant’s response. (Up to 500 words)

Even though Ms. Pranita is good at her work, she used to be sensitive in her dealings. Sometimes professional
work demands toughness and being outspoken. Being sensitive doesn’t help in certain situations. I also found that
sometimes, Pranita wasn’t assertive towards many of our teams. Her intention was to meet our entire requirement
without any compromise and to not disappoint anyone. While, she tried to do everything in her capacity, but at times
it didn’t help in bringing out the desired results.
There was one such incident when an individual from our side got upset with her, thinking that she had not resolved
a critical issue. She got very nervous and worried, but didn’t speak a word and took the ownership. Later I came to
know that she wasn’t even apprised of that issue.

Sensing that, I advised her that sometimes it is best to keep emotions away at work and be more objective. I
suggested her to find a fine balance and trade-off between the satisfaction of customer demands and the availability
of resources at her end.

In 3 years, she’s changed her approach and I can see that she now faces any situation with calmness and also tries
to pacify the client with logical reasoning. She has made a concrete effort to be more assertive. She now uses
data-backed reasoning to substantiate her viewpoint during conflicts. For example, to avoid her service-team idling
at site, she recently introduced a checklist to ensure that the pre-requisites are completed at sites in totality before
deputing the service teams.
She doesn’t shy away from confronting and discussing the constraints/possibilities and suggests rational and viable
solutions; thus ensuring our requirements are met in the best possible way. Her zest for fulfillment and commitment
to customers’ interests remains unshaken. From being nervous and scared, she’s now adept at handling our
requirements confidently.
4. Is there anything else we should know? (Optional)

I see a great amount of potential in Ms. Pranita. I highly recommend her for an MBA from your school as it would
provide her a perfect platform to achieve greater heights in her career.
