Practical course: Grammar and Vocabulary

Course description. The course is designed for upper-intermediate and advanced students of English. It covers the
main grammatical patterns of the English language at an upper-intermediate and advanced level and focuses on
areas of vocabulary which can prove useful in a variety of situations.

Requirements: Students are required to revise the specific grammatical problems scheduled for discussion
beforehand. Handouts with grammar explanations and exercises will be sent in advance. The exercises have to be
printed and brought to each meeting.

Attendance. Students are required to attend at least 11 meetings. Active participation is required.

Assessment. The final grade consists of class attendance and participation (20 pts) and final test (80 pts).

Week 5: Verb complementation II
Week 6: Prepositions with adjectives and nouns
Week 7: Adjectives (word formation)
Week 8: Noun combinations
Week 9: Verb combinations
Week 10: Words and phrases I
Week 11: Words and phrases II
Week 12: Organizing text I
Week 13: Organizing text II
Week 14: Final test
