Barangay Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City is mainly surrounded by fishponds and rivers. Communities in these villages are mostly
fishermen and depend on the coastal resources for their livelihoods. Communities in the villages located along this patch have been
given the right to benefit from the mangrove’s patches for fodder for their fish and other marine species for their livelihoods. This
project intends to contribute in the local community efforts on managing and sustaining coastal forests for sustainable marine
resources.
III.Project Objectives
Improve livelihoods for local communities by restoring degraded areas, which will further expand ecosystem benefits to the
communities in terms of fish catch.
- Raise awareness of the importance of mangroves in coastal ecosystem.
- Engage communities in the planting and conservation of mangrove ecosystems for their livelihoods. This will create motivation in
the communities to conserve mangroves for their own livelihoods, as communities also depend on these resources for their
livelihoods – such as fishing.
