Message from the Chairman

Access to information regarding the work of Parliamentarians

is a pre-requisite to generate interest among citizens. The Senate of
Pakistan, Directory of Members is an attempt to bridge the gap
between Members of the Senate and the people of Pakistan. The
publication provides general information about each Senator and their
contribution towards the Upper House. It also enlists the strides that
have been made by them, while serving this country and its people.
The Senate of Pakistan, Directory of Members, in addition
to offering contact details and achievements of Senators, also provides
information on membership of Committees of the Senate. Since these
Committees deal with a wide range of issues of public and national
signi icance, this comprehensive information bank will prove a
valuable resource for journalists, political activists and members of civil
society who take profound interest in the issues raised on this forum.

Mian Raza Rabbani

Chairman Senate

3
Message from the Secretary

Publishing Directory of Members of Parliament is a well-

established practice in many countries of the world since this is a
tool to provide information to the people about their representatives
and facilitate the public in approaching their elected representatives.
It also helps in keeping record and data about the members who had
served the Parliament in different terms.
In Pakistan, however, there is no set practice. The Senate of
Pakistan for some period published the Directory of Members but
the same discontinued on suspension of the Constitution and Senate.
Since renewal in March, 2015, the Senate of Pakistan has
undertaken many reforms and initiatives that will mark the current
term as a distinguished period in the history of Pakistan, especially in
the Senate's attempts to build a connection between the people and
their elected representatives. Revival of publishing of the Directory
of Members is another step in this direction.
Despite all precautions on our part, there will still be room
for improvement. We would appreciate user feedback and
suggestions to improve further editions that may be uploaded on the
Senate website or printed.
