A Detailed Lesson Plan in Health Intended for Grade 9 Students

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. discuss different classification of drugs,
2. identify the effects of illegal drugs,
3. value the importance of knowing the effects of illegal drugs in our health,
4. conduct a role play showing the prevention of using illegal drugs .

Motivation

Now, I will group you into 3, each group will have their
respective colors. Red for group 1, yellow for group 2, and blue Yes, ma’am.
for group 3.

At this point of time, we will have new topic to be discussed. Yes, ma’am.
But before that, let’s have an activity first.

Are you familiar with the game called Jigsaw Puzzle?


The mechanics of the game is each group should arrange the cut
out pictures and paste it in front within 5 minutes.

To those team who are not able to be on the top, let’s give blue
team a Kokak clap! Blue team, ma’am!

Prevention of Substance Use and Abuse


Regulated or Controlled drugs are those that can only be
bought with the prescription of a doctor.
Prohibited or Illegal drugs are drugs forbidden by the law.
They have no medical use and are very dangerous when used
and abused.

Stimulants – drugs that speed up the work of the central nervous


system.
EFFECTS: increased alertness, self-confidence, euphoria, and
impulsiveness
Depressants – drugs that depress, or slow down nerve activity.
EFFECTS: relax the muscles, bring on sleep, drunken behavior,
and loss of appetite

Hallucinogens – drugs that distort user’s perception of their


surroundings and their own bodies.
EFFECTS: increased blood pressure, nausea,and increased body
temperature

Narcotics – drugs that relieve pain and it depresses the nervous


system.
EFFECTS: slowed breathing, restlessness, and death

How to prevent substance use and abuse?


 Effectively deal with peer pressure.
 Deal with life pressure.
 Seek help for mental illness.
 Examine the risk factors.
 Keep a well-balanced life.

 APPLICATION

Now, each group will be given 5 minutes to conceptualize and


practice a five-minute role play showing the prevention of using
substance use and abuse.

For the last activity, Each group will write a poem which focuses
on alternative strategies or ways to prevent using illegal drugs.
Include how illegal drugs can destroy one’s life and family.
Present it in front after 5 minutes.

Total 50 points

 ASSIGNMENT

For your assignment, ask your family about smoking policies at


their work or school, write it on a one whole sheet of paper.
Share your findings with the class next meeting.
