I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE
Nowadays, cell phones are the most learning materials that students used. This is now the

biggest information source of students. In the case of the students, they prefer to use internet or

cell phones for their study, they say that internet, cell phones, or laptops are the most helpful for

their study. The reason why students prefer using cell phones than books or magazines are, first

because reading books and magazines are time consuming, second, hard to find about the related

topics or information.

As (Warscheuar, 2007), these mobile technologies are also a pattern in educational

methods will likely not only help subject content learning and may also facilitate the

development of communication, problem solving, creativity, and other high level skills among

student. In fact, every students that using mobiles or the cell phones to gather data and

information for their study, we observed that they are not just learned and gathered information

easier and faster but also it develop their skills in communicating to other just to gather

information and learning as there guide and their skills in problem solving, cause we observed

that if students not understand the lesson or the topic they searching internets, asking their

friends or watch instruction in web sites or watch videos to further understand. That’s the

reason why some students prefer cell phones as their guide and learning materials than books or

magazines. According to (Bebell, 2010) with regards to using cell phones, students, and

teachers prefer using internets, computers, and etc. for their lessons. It is the sad reality, that

now a days many people, especially youth, experience lack of human contact, and they try to

compensate it by mobile phone communication, which is not an adequate substitute for

professional intercourse. According to (Leep 2015), a research suggests that many students

perceived the cell phone primarily as a leisure devices, and most commonly use cell phones for
social networking, surfing the internet, watching videos and playing games. Thus, constant

usage and addiction to cell phones has affected the people physically, psychologically, and

socially. Excessive mobile phone used has been found to be associated with health problems.

We all know that students are most favorable in using cell phone in class for their study.

They used this as their learning material for their research, projects and for their home works.

This study will show the insights and causes of using cellphone.

II. RESEARCH QUESTIONS

This study aims to determine the insights of the students and causes of using cell phone.

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What are the insights of the students in using cell phones in the class?

2. What are the causes of using cell phone in the class?

3. What is the average number of minutes that students spend in using cell phone on a daily

basis?

4. Is there a significant relationship between the insights of the students in using cell phones

in its causes?
III. RESEARCH METHOD

A. Respondents

The participants of study are the selected students of Grade 11 Senior High in Quezon

National High School. The research sample are compose of Sixty-one (61) students who were

chosen from 302 Grade 11 students. To interpret the data effectively, descriptive statistic such as

percentage frequency count will be considered. A percentage frequency distribution is a display

of data that specifies the percentage of observations that exist for each data points. It is

particularly useful method of expressing the relative frequency of survey responses and other

data.

A simple random sampling procedure is use in selecting the participants of the study. The

technique is employed to ensure a fair and equal representation of the variables for the study.

C. Instrumentation
The researchers design a questionnaire for the data gathering process to get a

qualitative data. The primary aim of the questionnaire is to determine the students who

used cell phones for their study. This research uses a close question to which the

respondent must answer yes or no, the researchers are able to limit responses that are

within the scope of this study.

D. Data Gathering Procedures

A simple random sampling procedure is use in selecting the participants of the

study. The technique is employed to ensure a fair and equal representation of the variables for

the study. But first, we asked permission to the principal to gather some data. Then,

questionnaires given directly to the chosen sample of the study in the selected students which

has a total of 61 respondents. But before the questionnaires are given to the respondents we

give it to our subject teacher for checking.

E. Research Design

The researchers chose descriptive survey research design because it best served to answer

the question and the purposes of the study. In survey method research, the participants should

answer the questions administered through questioners. After the participants answer the

questions, researchers describe the responses given.

F. Data Analysis

To interpret the data effectively, descriptive statistic such as percentage frequency count

will be considered. A percentage frequency distribution is a display of data that specifies the

percentage of observations that exist for each data points. It is particularly useful method of

expressing the relative frequency of survey responses and other data.

In this method, we will use the formula %=(f/n)x100 wherein:

n=total amount of items in your data

f= the numbers of the times the item appears

And the mean formula x =

∑ f (x) wherein:
n

x = mean
f =the numbers of the times the item appears

n =total amount of items in your data
