THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

This chapter represents the students facing a lot of problems and challenges

in life. They wake up in a morning and start their day in school. Basically, students

might feel tired and stress because of their family problem specifically to financial

problem and they feel exhausted after going home from school. Because of that, they

are feeling lazy and not doing their assignment, also they are not capable to do their

responsibilities at home and they decided to hangouts with friend to escape from stress.

According to Lifeline Organization, A Financial problem or financial

pressure is a situation where money worries are causing you stress. Many people are

facing hard financial times and the impact on mental health can be significant. These

problems can seem impossible to overcome, but you can get help and take steps to

improve your situation.

Probably, the Financial problem has a solution such as talking to your

parent, start asking about it for you to know that you are not only affected to this

problem and so on. Financial Problem may lead to certain causes like feelings of being

a lazy one, feeling of so much stress and overthink about what will happen soon.

Therefore, Financial problem is a serious matter that includes your family. Aside from

those, it may also lead you to become a rebel one.

Apart from that, as we know Financial Problem will affect your academic

performance. Some of them are not yet finish their school because of lack of money.

And they decided to start being a working student to help their parents and also to

sustain the needs of his/her siblings. Most of the times, the eldest child of the family is

the one who sacrifice and stop their going to school.

This research will help you to enhance your financial management skills that

may affect to your academic performance particularly to those students of Upper

Bicutan National High School.

Background of the Study

According to Ms. Valentina Lee, Assistant Professor of Psychology at

FIU“Financial Problem is a situation where money worries are causing stress to the

students or individuals. The study connects poverty to low cognitive ability and

concludes that financial difficulties affects in to Senior High Students academic

performances”.

There are different reasons on why students dealing with Financial Problem

such as Family Problem, Poor budgeting, Parents Unemployment and Expensive

Emergencies. Through that, some students are dealing in financial problems that will

affect to their academic performance and to their daily lives. Also, this research will

give some tips on how they will overcome this kind of problems.

This study will help us on how financial problem affects the student

academic performances of the Senior High school students in Upper Bicutan National

High school batch 2019-2020.

Statement of the Problem

This research aims to evaluate the Impact of Financial Problem to each student of

Senior High school Program. Specifically, the researchers would like to answer the

following research questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 age;

1.2sex;

1.3 strand;

1.4 average weekly income Commented [J1]:

2. Where each family gets weeklyincome?

2.1 work;

2.2 business;

2.3 others;

3. When they can get their monthly income?

3.1 every 5th of the month

5. Based on the finding of this study, what are the main reasonon why students dealing

with Financial Problem?

The following questions above are essential to all researchers and respondents. It

includes the demographic profile of the respondents, where each family gets a monthly

income, when they can get their monthly income and how much money they spend

every day. Lastly, the main reason on why students dealing with Financial problem.

Hypothesis

The students will enhance their financial management skills and they will learn

how to stand in their own feet.

The financial problem will affect the academic performance of the students

Our Research Paradigm shows the input, process and output of our research

topic which is the Impact of Financial Difficulties among Senior High School Students.

And, it shows the guide questions that is related to our research topic such as where

each family gets a monthly income, when they can get their monthly income, how much

money they spend every day and what are the main reasons on why student dealing

with Financial Problem.

The input of this research is the Demographic profiles of the respondents in

terms of strand, daily budget and average monthly income of their parents. Through

this input we easily identify the main subject of this research.

The process of this research is to analyzed the main point of view of researchers

and respondents to this research and one of the best ways to achieve a successful result

on this study was to conduct a survey questionnaire that serve as a guide to collect more

data that the researchers will interpret and understand.

Lastly, the output will be the most important part of Conceptual Framework

because this is the future results of our research that will identify if our study is

successful or not. And through this study, some students who are experiencing

Financial Problem will enhance their skills on Financial Management.

Theoretical Framework

According to an old review of published psychology research in the

Philippines, stress and coping has been one of the most intensively researched topics

among Filipino psychology researched (Bernardo 1997). but there were hardly any

studies that focus on stress experiences of Filipino students in that review, a trend that

has improved somewhat in the last decade with the publication of some studies on

Filipino student’ stress-related experiences. This observation reflects a similar trend in

other parts of the world where research on stress experienced by higher education

students came relatively late compared to stress research on other populations

(MichieGlachan, and Bray, 2001). In the past two decades, Research about Financial

stress in higher education has increased and a psychologist are now had a better

understanding to the range of stressors, for students (Robothamand Julian, 2006) and

factors related to students’ stress (Beiter et al., 2015).

One of the sources of stress for students that has been observed among higher

education systems in different parts of the world relates to Financial pressures (Aherne,

200;JooDurband, &Grable, 2008; Roberts, Golding, Towell, &Weinreb, 1999). Not

surprisingly, stress related to financial strain and uncertainty has a negative impact on

student well-being (Mahmoud, Staten, Hall, & Lennie, 2012; SymthHockemeyer,

Heron, Wonderlich&Pennbaker, 2008). Student’ financial stress is associated with

higher self-reported mental health needs (Hyun, Quinn, Madon, &Lustug 2006),

difficulties in collage adjustment (Meehan &Negy, 2003), and a ranger of adverse

behaviors, social relations, and academic outcomes (Adams, Meyers, &Beidas 2016;

Northern, O’Brien, & Goetz, 2010).

Experiencing financial stress is notlikely among Filipino students, and

government statistics suggest that a significant proportion of the school-age population

experience financial difficulties. Starting at the basic education level. Almost 20% of

Filipino children who dropped out school mentioned insufficient financial resources as

the main reason quitting school (Philippines Statistics Authority, 2015), Dropping out

of school was most probable among 17-years old, particularly among those from the

lowest income families.

Those theory supports our research in a way that is similar to our main

pointofview and it has the same cause and effects ofFinancial Problem to each Senior

High School Students.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The focus of this study is to conduct an empirical overview of financial literacy

among Senior High School Students. In addition, this study focuses on selected Senior

High School students in Upper Bicutan National High School since the students

ofUpper Bicutan are experiencing different problems such as Financial Problem.

This is also about to the tips on how students handle this kind of problems.

The researchers will explain the impacts of financial problems among Senior High

students and the characteristics of respondents on how they can overcome the financial

problem. And also discuss the monthly income of each family and the main reason of

having a Financial Problems.

In this research study, the aim of the researchers is to enhance the Financial

Management skills of the Senior High School Students.

This research will conduct only to those students of Upper Bicutan National

High School Batch 2019-2020.

Significance of the Study

It is important to study the Financial Problem among students for them to

handle this kind of situation wisely that can affect their schooling.

To the students, to know how students deal with the financial problem and

how their surroundings affect to their everyday living.

To the teachers, they will know the reasons on why some students are not

passing their homework or activities that includes money.

To the parents, they will know that their children will mostly affect when they

are not good in budgeting. And they will realize that the financial support is one of the

best things that they can give to their children.

To the future researchers, they will get some ideas and serves basis to their

research paper and it gives them some tips on how they are conduct survey.

This study will primarily concern to those students who are experiencing

Financial Problem. The main purpose of this research is to determine the Impact of

Financial Problem among Senior High School Students particularly in Upper Bicutan

National High School Batch 2019-2020.
