collections and accumulation. And we've been doing this since 1970.
What do we buy?
We buy virtually anything in stamps and covers, from specialised one country collections to general lots and
accumulations, from better quality single items to complete dealer’s stocks. If it’s philatelic, we're interested.
ACCURATE VALUATIONS We have over forty years full time experience as a major buyer in the stamp trade and we buy from all the main
UK & Continental auction houses. We make accurate, efficient valuations based on the very latest market values.
FAIR VALUATIONS We work on high turnover with low profit margins which means we must buy - and we pay the top market price.
IMMEDIATE PAYMENT All our offers are backed by immediate payment. We agree a price and you get paid there and then. It’s that simple.
HOME VISITS We travel extensively, which means we can easily arrange to view bulky, valuable collections in your own home.
And finally...
We buy most of our material from auction, usually at well below our “top price”. Auctioneers typically take between 15-25%
from BOTH SIDES! If those people had sold directly to us they would have saved time, been paid more and paid immediately.
How do we operate?
We have one of the best philatelic websites

O
SOLD FOR £5,760 ne often sees discussions concerning
repairs on lower priced stamps, writes John
Apfelbaum. While collectors do need to
be careful about repairs and alterations it
is important to remember that stamps are
repaired for a reason and that reason is so they can be sold
as non-damaged items at higher prices than they would
be otherwise. Thus repairing a stamp is an economic act,
not someone engaging in an esoteric activity. I say this so
that you’ll keep in mind the two questions that reasonable
philatelists ask when they are examining an item for repairs;
Why, and when?

Start a WWI collection
T
he Great War began in August 1914 following the assassination of Archduke
Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, and his wife.
Over the four years it continued, it involved armies from a wide range of
countries, not only in Europe. In total, over 65 million soldiers, sailors
and airmen were involved. It is estimated that there were over forty million
casualties, both military and civilian, of which eighteen million died.
This story of the ‘war to end all wars’ may be familiar to us all, but begin to investigate
and collate just some of the varied stamps and postal history of this chaotic period and
you can create your own unique postscript. There are countless avenues to pursue and
the following introductory guide will provide you with examples and inspiration to start
creating your own WWI collection, 100 years after the events that shook the world.
War stamps
Put simply, the stamp issues of many countries
reflect their involvement. Some were overprinted
by occupying armies, others were used to raise
money for the war effort. The range of shades

Other Fronts
Fighting took place at various times in the war on other fronts,
including Serbia, Salonica, the Caucasus, the Middle East and in Africa
At the start of the War, Austria invaded Serbia, but were beaten
back, only finally occupying the country with the aid of German and
Bulgarian troops.

Italy
Italy entered the War on the side of the Allies in April 1915
and fought on two fronts, the Tyrol and on the Isonzo river,
to begin with against Austrian forces but later German troops
as well. Twelve battles were fought on the Isonzo, resulting in
considerable Italian casualties.
With the introduction of German troops, a breakthrough
of the Italian lines was achieved at the Battle of Caporetto and
British and French units were sent to Italy to support their
defence. Finally, in October 1918 at the Piave River, Allied
forces broke through the Austrian lines and an armistice was
called for.
