MARITIME ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

ISO 9001:2015 QUALITY MANAGEMENT FOR SHIPPING & THE
CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGE
This seminar focuses on the modern issue of maritime environmental management, in particular with
regard to the implementation of the quality management systems prescribed in ISO 90001:2015 as a tool
for shipping companies to meet their obligation to comply with the modern complex statutory and
regulatory requirements relating to the enhancement of the environmental performance of ships. Given
that the most pressing and challenging issue faced by the shipping industry nowadays is the climate change
problem, which is expected to change, in the immediate future, the way of operation of ships and shipping
companies, this seminar views the issue of quality management under the scope of climate change and
shipping’s present and future contribution to the global effort for the reduction of greenhouse gas
emissions.

The Course Focus on :

 The climate change phenomenon (presentation of the phenomenon, causes, effects, contribution of
shipping)

 ISO 90001:2015 (presentation of the standard and examples of quality management policies of shipping
companies)

 Existing regulations for the reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships (MARPOL Annex VI, IMO Data Collection
System on GHG emissions from ships, EU MRV Regulation)

 Ways and proposed measures to enhance the energy efficiency of ships and to strengthen shipping’s
contribution to the global effort against climate change (IMO Strategy for the Reduction of GHG emissions
from ships, proposed short-, medium- and long-term measures (speed optimization or speed reduction,
alternative fuels, mandatory EEDI requirements, levy on fuels, carbon market))
