ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of English Class on language
learning. The participants of this study were 50 chosen students from the STEM Strand at Richwell
Colleges Inc. The students were given sets of questionnaires as the instrument of this study that
consisted of 15 items. Based on the responses from questionnaire participants, the study argue that
English class has a strong impact on the language learnings. The researchers recommended that
the students should be exposed too to the English language through watching English movies and
program, surfing the internet, listening to radio, reading English books ,magazines, newspapers,
and practicing English language with native speakers to encourage them to overcome their
weaknesses and improve their fluency as well as proficiency in acquiring English language.
Moreover, parents and acquaintances should raise learners’ awareness towards the importance of
learning English language through exposure to the language daily using different techniques that
can enhance second language learning.
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
The English language plays the important roles in our life. It allows everyone to relate and
therefore to understand each other. Speaking English allows too to broaden their world, from job
opportunities to relate people from every country. Anywhere you want to go in the world, you can
find someone who speaks in English. English class has a big role too for the language learning. It
enhances the student’s learning and fluency in English.
English class is where people study English Language. Grammars, pronunciation and
constructing words are the main point of the class. People may wonder why English matters,
particularly if they plan to study or work in a field in which they think English is irrelevant.
Possibly the most important reason to take an English class because it is applicable in all fields
and careers. Wherever speaking, writing or critical thinking is required, English class is
useful. Because in the real world after graduation, business and companies used English language
in their job interview.
The researchers conducted this research to investigate the impact of English Class on
language learning. Especially to those STEM Students of Richwell Colleges Inc. Using the
questionnaire, the responses of the students will be the basis on how does the English Class affects
the language learning of the students
The study aims to assess the students of STEM Strand in Richwell Colleges Inc. in dealing
with the impact of English Class in their language learning.
The research study seeks to examine the impact of English class on language learning.

LITERATURE REVIEW
RELATED CONCEPT
Foreign
Language has been estimated that half of the world’s population is multilingual (Grosjean
& Miller, 1994), and more than one language has been connected with cognitive benefits
throughout the lifespan (Bialystok, Craik & Ryan, 2006). Nowadays, English language is
considered as an essential that is attended and used all over the world as a means of
communication. A good command of English is the stepping stone to better educational, and job
opportunities, and higher social status (Charise, 2007). With the intention of equipping the younger
generation with the English communication skills required for higher education and career
opportunities, public and private schools in the Arab World introduced ESL/ EFL in their
educational systems.
However, exposure to language can be defined as the contact that the learners have with
the target language that they are attempting to learn .Inside the classroom, one of the most
central roles of the teacher is to provide learners with sufficient exposure to practice the target
language in a variety of contexts, and from different speakers. It is believed that learning English
language needs to be encouraged and developed in the classroom and out the classroom through
appropriate techniques. Such techniques help students become better able to improve their English
language and to express themselves in the target language.
Exposure to English language is something learners run into in their everyday life.
Interest and motivation are essential factors when it comes to language learning, but one should
distinguish between reward and work when bringing different types of media in the classroom. To
sum up, the previous studies have provided evidence on how exposure to English language has
positive effects on language acquisition. However, language acquisition is crucial to fluency in a
second / foreign language acquisition that can be useful and helpful learning environment through
exposure to target language.
These studies have confirmed that many researchers have discovered how media may work
as a tool for second language acquisition learning. However, the results of many studies showed
that language acquisition could be speeded by explicit teaching such as that typically practiced in
school. Therefore, chatting with native speakers, watching English programs, listening to English
programs and songs, practicing English through using social media and surfing information on the
internet can all contribute to expose learners to English language because a massive amount is
communicated in English.
Local
Among ASEAN countries, the Philippines occupies a unique position in that English was
brought to the country by the Americans, rather than the British. Three hundred years of Spanish
occupation did nothing to make the Spanish language occupy the same prestige status that English
enjoys today. However, about fifty years of American rule was enough to put the English language
in its present elevated position in Philippine society. English came to the Philippine classrooms
through American soldiers who first taught in Corregidor in 1898. With the Americans came public
education and a directive for English to be used as the medium of instruction (MOI) in all levels.
During this period of colonial rule (1898–1946), English was taught as if the Filipino students were
native speakers of the language. (Martin 2002) One indication of this may be found in the
following quote from an American school principal in 1911.
The school principal believes that Filipino students will learn the English language only by
memorizing dialogues. Such was the practice in American schools at that time. Other than dialogue
memorization, the colonial public schools also promoted other mechanical methods of teaching
the language, namely, stressing eye movements in reading, asking students to read aloud, making
them perform grammar drills, and expecting them to recite memorized passages.

MULTILINGUAL
It is the use of more than one language, either by an individual speaker or by a group of
speakers. It is believed that multilingual speakers outnumber monolingual speakers in the world's
population. For better understanding, using or knowing more than one language; "a multilingual
translator"; "a multilingual nation".
LANGUAGE
System that consists of the development, acquisition, maintenance and use of complex
systems of communication, particularly the human ability to do so; a language is any specific
example of such a system.
LANGUAGE LEARNING
The process by which the language capability develops in a humans and learning to use a
language.
English as a global language is having considerable impact on policies and practices in all
countries. It also reveals significant problems, including confusion and inconsistency, at the level
of policy, particularly regarding the issue of age of initial instruction, inequity regarding access to
effective language instruction, inadequately trained and skilled teachers, and a disjunction between
curriculum rhetoric and pedagogical reality.
English language is the most common language that is used in sciences, books, magazines,
newspapers, movies and other media of news or entertainment. Knowing English will allow us
access to an incredible amount of information. Because of its important role, English is considered
as one of the most popular language in many countries. Its main purpose is to make students be
able to know how to communicate with others if they leave the country for university or business.
It helps people to communicate with others from other countries. Without a language that is widely
spoken and used to communicate, important jobs in the world cannot take place. Therefore,
learning English can change your life.

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
The researchers used research questionnaire as the method of data gathering in this study.
Its purpose is to get the opinion of every students about the impact of English Class to their
language learning. It is also a creative type of study research in identifying the English Class on
language learning of senior high school students as it aims to assess the needs, procedure, and
techniques to a better selection of material and organization of this study.
In this study, the researchers choose the purposive technique in sampling method
as the subjects is only limited. Specifically, 10 boys and 10 girls from STEM 11-Grace, 10 boys
and 10 girls from STEM 11-Faith and 5 boys and 5 girls from STEM 11-Trust. The participant
answered the survey questionnaire to identify the impact of English Class on Language learning.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
DATA GATHERING
After the validation of the instrument, the researchers secured a written permit to the
administrators of Richwell Colleges Inc., After given permission, the researchers explained the
purpose of the study to the selected respondents and then they made sure each participant
corresponds to their predefined criteria. The researchers collected the data by means of survey
questionnaire that comprises their age, gender, and section.
After the respondents have taken the tests, the papers were checked, tallied, interpreted
and analyzed.

DISAGREE
Having English Class is something learners run into in their everyday life.
This approve the advantage of learning English language in the authentic language environment
when they sit on their computers at home, watching a film or playing a game, they might pick up
words and phrases and use them in the future. However, English Class plays a major role in the
learner’s language production. It should be realized that exposure to the language can directly
develop a language comprehension that can lead to social interaction with speakers of the target
language.
The results showed that English Class plays an essential role in the language learning since
the overall means was high reached (58%). Thus, the results presented a strong impact of English
Class into Language Learning. Politzer (1965), also addressed the same view, when he stated that
immigrants arriving to the United States ultimately learn to speak English as they were continuing
to expose themselves to the target language environment.
Accordingly, thorough exposing to the English Class, the learner can improve the second /
foreign language. Same result was garnered by Ellis (2002) stressing that learners may apprehend
the target language by regular exposure to it. Throughout this exposure, the learner normally come
across the linguistic features that composed language. He emphasized the results of several studies
showed that language can be speeded by explicit instruction, such as that normally used by teachers
in schools.
Lambine's (2008) explained that the increased exposure the children get outside the school
environment, it can change the way they think about the language. The results related to the
relationship between exposure to English language and developing the four language skills
(listening, speaking, reading and writing) proved a positive relationship. Language learners acquire
skills and knowledge by using the language, by writing and speaking, and by listening and reading.
Students may even acquire native-like accents by listening to previously recorded material.
In conclusion, the results showed a significant impact of English class on language learnings who
are exposed to the English language at numerous levels are more open when it comes to language
learning as well as there is a strong relationship between exposure to English language and
developing the four language skills.
CONLUSION
Based on the results and analysis of this study, the statistical analysis approved that there
are some positive impact of English language that develops the four language skills language.
Using English language in real life situations, surfing the internet using English
language, using social media in English language as well as, reading English books, magazines,
and newspapers helps a lot to the students. Thus, studies cited in this study indicated that the
significance of exposure in language learning that means the more the learner exposed to English
language, the more he reads and speaks in the language in class
The higher the exposure, the better the learner performs in the target language.
Actually, exposure to English language improves language learning as exposure refers to the total
contacts with a target language that a learner receives, both in verbal and in written forms.
The researcher recommended that students should be continually exposed to the English
language through many types of media, such as movies, songs and the internet on a daily basis to
help them get rid of their points of weakness and improve their fluency as well as proficiency in
English.
Finally, the present study is only a small step towards doing justice to this topic. This study
may help future researchers investigate this issue with a larger group in more depth and with more
connection to the impact of English Class on Language Learning.
