ABSTRACT
Women is the storehouse of emotions, energy and wisdom. We respectfully refer India as Bharat Mata, but, the
worst plight of this nation is that the mothers, daughters and sisters or collectively the “Women folk” of the
country are held back and exploited.Women in our country are treated inferior to men in several societies.
Social, cultural and economic reasons are responsible for this.women empowerment is the need of the hour
,since almost half of our population comprises of the fairer sex. India could very well be a forerunner in the
development race,if women of our country are empowered and are able to rub shoulders with men and
contribute equally for the progress of our nation. There are many determinants of women empowerment. This
most important amongst them is education. An educated woman is always empowered woman.

worshipped.

development. The genderdiscrimination as measured by development. The gender
discrimination as measured by development human development index , gender development
index, and gender empowerment measure is very high in india compared with advanced
countries like canda, u.s.a and u.k etc. This disparity in education against women is more
