In 1734, Esaias Meijer acquired the farm from the

Dutch East India Company. He named the farm

HART & BOSCH.

In 1933, the farm was purchased by the South African Railways and Harbours who
turned it into an affordable holiday resort for low-income employees. By 1936, the
Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuurvereniging (ATKV or the Afrikaans Language and Cultural
Society) purchased the land to form an affordable holiday solution,
exclusively for Afrikaans-speaking South Africans.
