Course Description

The Concert Attendance course is designed to expand and integrate the student’s musicianship,
technical ability, artistic personality, and sense of responsibility. The student’s knowledge of music
history and styles beyond the area of specialization will be enhanced by attendance at a variety of
concerts. Music majors are required to pass eight semesters of this zero-credit course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• demonstrate knowledge of diverse musical styles and performance practices; and

• demonstrate knowledge of solo and ensemble literature.

Academic Tracking

UNF requires faculty to track whether the students enrolled in their courses have participated in
at least one academically-related activity by the end of week 2 of the semester. Therefore, you must
complete the “Concert Attendance Policies and Procedures Quiz” that is on Canvas no later than
Friday, January 17.

Coursework and Grading

To fulfill the Concert Attendance requirement, students must attend eight concerts over the course
of the semester. At least four of the concerts must be from the School of Music calendar. The other
four concerts may include additional concerts from the School of Music calendar, but may also
include student recitals and off-campus events (e.g., JSO concerts). Students may not use concerts
in which they performed to meet the Concert Attendance requirement. (An exception will be made
for concerts in which the student played a very minor role.)

To pass the course, students must complete and submit the Spring 2020 Concert Attendance Form,
which is available on Canvas. Instructions on how to complete the form are on the form itself.

The due date for completed forms to be turned in to Dr. Gosden or the School of Music office is
Monday, April 27, at 6 p.m.

Completed forms that are turned in on time will receive an A. Completed forms that are turned in
no more than 24 hours late will receive a B. Completed forms that are turned in no more than 72
hours late will receive a C. Forms turned in more than 72 hours late will not be accepted.
2
Forms that are turned in on time but do not meet the requirements for the course will receive an
incomplete. It is up to the student to contact the instructor to find out how to remedy this.

Plagiarism & Academic Integrity

Students must personally attend concerts in their entirety to use them for the Concert Attendance
requirement. Failure to adhere to this policy may result in a final grade of F and/or disciplinary
action by the university. Information on the university’s policies with regard to academic integrity
can be found in the university catalog (www.unf.edu/catalog).

Continuity of Classes

In the event that normal classroom activities are disrupted, the format of this course may be

to this syllabus that supersedes the present version will be provided. It is your responsibility to check
the course website on Canvas and your UNF email account for any instructions provided by the
