1 Introduction
This document describes the HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers feature and its
main benefits and impacts on the WCDMA RAN. The feature is also called
HSDPA-3MC for short in this document.
Feature identity:
FAJ 121 3909: HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers
Dependencies
For DU Radio Node, this feature also requires the following RAN feature:
1.2 Benefits
This section describes the benefits of this feature.
The physical channel structure for a UE unit configured with the HSDPA-3MC
and for a UE unit with the HSDPA-MC is different. Two secondary serving HS-
DSCH cells are available and the coding of Channel Quality Indicator (CQI)
and Acknowledgment (ACK) or Negative Acknowledgment (NACK) on the
uplink (UL) HS-DPCCH is changed. The UE sends three CQIs and three
ACKs or NACKs, one for each frequency, on the HS-DPCCH.
• The serving E-DCH/HS-DSCH cell change: if the target cell supports the
HSDPA-3MC
• The serving E-DCH/HS-DSCH cell change: if the target cell does not
support the HSDPA-3MC or if Iur is used
• The license key for FAJ 121 3909: HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers is
installed.
For DU Radio Node, the following must also be fulfilled at feature activation:
3 Parameters
Parameter Description
RncFunction::evolvedHsUePri The range of this parameter is extended to include
oLevel MULTI_CARRIER_3_MC_LOWER_RATE.
Hsdsch::initialCqiRepetitio When the HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers feature is used in a
nFactor connection and if initialCqiRepetitionFactor >
cqiFeedbackCycle / 4, the CQI repetition factor used for the
connection is max (4,cqiFeedbackCycle) / 4, rounded down to
the nearest integer value.
Hsdsch::cqiFeedbackCycle When the HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers feature is used in a
connection, the CQI feedback cycle used for the connection is
max (4, cqiFeedbackCycle).
4 Network Impact
For DU Radio Node, the feature also affects the network performance in the
following ways:
4.3 Hardware

feature.
Table 8 Counters
Counter Description
Radio Node Counters
HsDschResources::pmSum3McPr The number of UE units configured for the cell as the primary
iUes serving HS-DSCH cell in the 3MC mode. The average number of
the 3MC users can be calculated by pmSum3McPriUes /
pmSampleScAndMcActUes.
HsDschResources::pmSumAcked The total amount of acknowledged data sent on MAC-ehs level in
Bits3McPqSpi<00-15> any cell to UE units configured to use the cell as the primary
serving HS-DSCH cell in the 3MC mode. Only the acknowledged
data originating from a PQ with the corresponding scheduling
priority class is considered. The counter reflects the PQ
perspective.
HsDschResources::pmSumNonEm The number of PQs, belonging to UE units configured to use the
ptyUserBuffers3McPqSpi<00-15 cell as the primary serving HS-DSCH cell in the 3MC mode, with
> data in the buffer for each 2 ms subframe. Only the PQs with the
corresponding scheduling priority class are considered. The
counter reflects the PQ perspective.
Modified counters: Radio Node
HsDschResources::pmNoOfHsUs The counter is modified to include the case of more than one
ersPerTti secondary serving HS-DSCH cell.
HsDschResources::pmReported The counter is modified to include the case of more than one
Cqi secondary serving HS-DSCH cell.
HsDschResources::pmReported The counter is modified to include the case of more than one
Cqi64Qam secondary serving HS-DSCH cell.
HsDschResources::pmUsedCqi The counter is modified to include the case of more than one
secondary serving HS-DSCH cell.
Counter Description
HsDschResources::pmSampleSc The counter is modified to also observe the aggregated number
AndMcActUes of sample values that the pmSum3McPriUes counter is updated
with.
Modified counter: RNC
UtranCell::pmTotNoRrcConnec Two new individual counter elements are added to support the
tUeCapability new HS categories, from 29 to 32, for the 3MC and 4MC.
More information about counters can be found in Managed Object Model RNC
and Managed Object Model RBS.
6.3 Events
The HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers feature introduces no new event.
The feature introduces the following three new event parameters for the RNC:
• EVENT_PARAM_SOURCE_C_ID_2_SECONDARY_SERV_HSDSCH_C
ELL
• EVENT_PARAM_TARGET_C_ID_2_SECONDARY_SERV_HSDSCH_CE
LL
• EVENT_PARAM_HS_DSCH_PHYSICAL_LAYER_CATEGORY_EXT4
This section provides Operation and Maintenance (O&M) information for the
HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers feature.
7.1.1 Preconditions
For three HS-DSCH cells to operate in an HSDPA-3MC mode, where one cell
acts as a primary serving HS-DSCH cell and the other two cells act as
secondary serving HS-DSCH cells, for each HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers
connection, the three cells have to fulfill the following conditions:
• The cells need to have a valid license, CXC 402 0082, installed in the
radio node.
• The cells need to be configured with the same setting for each of the
following radio node parameters:
– queueSelectAlgorithm
– airRateTypeSelector
– schPrioForAbsResSharing
– schMaxDelay
– schWeight
– minBitRate
– minBitRateMinCqi
• The cells need to be configured with adjacent frequencies in the RNC. The
channel spacing between any adjacent frequencies in the HSDPA Multi-
Carrier 3 Carriers connection is less than or equal to 5 MHz.
• The cells need to have the same timing, that is, the tCell RNC
parameter must be set to the same value.
• The FAJ 121 1331: Support for 64 QAM feature is not obligatory for the
HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers feature. However, the HSDPA Multi-
Carrier 3 Carriers in combination with the 64 QAM is required to support
the peak bit rate. The three carriers are configured in the same way
regarding the connection capability. Configuring one carrier with the 64
QAM and the other carriers without the 64 QAM is not possible.
• Either all three cells support FAJ 121 1128: Transmit Diversity, or none of
them supports Transmit Diversity feature. If Transmit Diversity is activated
in one of the cells, it must also be activated in the other cells.
For DU Radio Node, the three cells also have to fulfill the following condition:
• The FAJ 121 2709: HSDPA Multi Carrier Inter DU Joint Scheduling feature
must be activated.
In addition, for a cell to act as a primary serving HS-DSCH cell for the HSDPA
Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers connection, the following conditions must be met:
• The FAJ 121 1023: Enhanced Uplink Introduction Package feature must
be activated.
One or all cells in the HS-DSCH cell set can be configured to work as the
primary serving HS-DSCH cell.
When the cell configuration prevents it from acting as a primary serving HS-
DSCH cell for an HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers connection, if possible,
defining a coverage relation to another cell, able to act as a primary serving
HS-DSCH cell, is recommended.
Note: • One cell acting as the primary serving HS-DSCH cell can have a
cell relation established to more than two secondary serving HS-
DSCH cells.
7.1.2 Activating
To activate the HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers, do the following:
• For DU Radio Node, activate the feature on the cell level by setting the
RbsLocalCell::featureStateHsdpa3Mc parameter to ACTIVATED.
Note: • If the parameter is set to ACTIVATED only for one of the three
HS-DSCH cells, configured to operate in HSDPA-3MC mode,
all UE units configured with HSDPA-3MC use that cell as a
primary serving HS-DSCH cell and the other cells as
secondary serving HS-DSCH cells.
• For Baseband Radio Node, activate the feature on the cell level by setting
the NodeBLocalCell::featCtrlHsdpa3Mc attribute to ON.
Note: • If the parameter is set to ON only for one of the three HS-
DSCH cells, configured to operate in HSDPA-3MC mode, all
UE units configured with HSDPA-3MC use that cell as a
primary serving HS-DSCH cell and the other cells as
secondary serving HS-DSCH cells.
7.2.1 Preconditions
This feature has no preconditions for deactivating.
7.2.2 Deactivating
To deactivate the HSDPA Multi-Carrier 3 Carriers feature, do the following:
