Abstract:
The purpose of this project is to help and assist children with
autism to increase their emotional recognition skills with the help
of game, as per CDC, around 1 of every 59 kids have Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Using flutter and other frameworks, The Autism

Emo Recognition app is created. It is an interactive app to help
those children improve their skills of recognition of emotions and
face recognition. The app contains different games and exercises
about recognizing different parts of the face (i.e. eyes, nose).
Different tools will be use in this project. The child will play these
games without noticing the learning outcomes that will be
seen after some time. The expected outcome is the betterment of
the senses of those children with ASD. The advantages of this
project will be of high significance as there are very few online
institutes who teach those skills in such fun ways.
1. Background:

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), including high functioning autism (HFA),

Asperger's Disorder, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDDNOS), normally
include debilitating interpersonal impairments, thought to result from disappointments in
understanding others' goals, considerations, and feelings. Subsequently, scientists have
accepted that people with autism spectrum disorder experience issues perceiving others'
nonverbal articulations of feeling. Previous studies have shown that autistic children give
quick and better results when working in an unambiguous way. Interactive games
demonstrating different emotions can aid them in learning and will also help them in
yielding effective results, approximately, as quick as one month if a child plays it twice a
week.

1.1 What is Autism?

Autism is a long-lasting formative inability that influences how an individual speaks with and
identifies with other individuals and how they experience their general surroundings.

According to the National Institute of mental state, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may be
a developmental disorder that affects communication and behavior of autistic children. Although
autism may be diagnosed at any age. The child have is diagnosed with autism no matter what her
or his age is. Mostly autism is finding in children of 2 to 5 years. Above then hat can be
diagnosed with it. It is mostly genetic. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders (DSM-5), a guide created by the American psychiatric Association accustomed
diagnose mental disorders, individuals with ASD have:

● Difficulty and troubles with communication, interaction and

conveying their messages to other people
● Tedious and repetitive behaviors

● Symptoms like flappy hands or having difficulties in eye to eye connection

ASD happens altogether ethnic, racial, and economic groups. Although ASD can be a lifelong
disorder, treatments and services can improve a person’s symptoms and ability to function.

1.2 Atypical Autism:

Atypical Autism refers to the Autism disorder with milder effects and conditions and
therefore sometimes cannot be diagnosed with typical Autism diagnosis.

Atypical autism is the term used when the person’s behavior pattern fits most but not all the
factors for typical autism. Atypical autism sometimes differs from autism in terms either of age
of onset or of failure to meet all 3 sets of autism diagnostic criteria. Atypical autism is probably
going to become manifest after three years of age and it's a kind of autism that might go
unknown for years.

1.3 Causes and symptoms

The causes of autism are many. If there is person in family who is diagnose with autism then
there are chances of autism disease to another member of family. The most important cause is
genetic mutation. Moreover the other reason is that if a baby has this disorder, he or she is may
born by older parents. Children with autism may show sign or symptoms. Appropriation of
irregular discourse design is a symptom of autism disease. These people keep away from eye to
eye contact with others. Not chattering and cooing to the parents as a baby is also an early sign of
autism. They will also have troubles in continuing discussions with other individuals.

These people will be having obvious errors in getting sentiments and communication on their
own. An individual with autism may likewise show redundant or uncommon practices.
1.4 Behaviors and Acts
These children with disease become obsessed with things or objects such as gadgets and family
unit. Arranging and orchestrating toys or questions in a systematic way is also a sign or symptom
of autism. They use to put resources into a subject that appear to devour them such as timetables,
vehicles and planes etc. They mostly participate in dull actions such as shaking side by side. The
first symptom of Autism Spectrum Disorder can be flappy hands. They might try to run away
from their families and from schools.

Analyst have discriminated a few qualities that have consortium or associations with Autism
Spectrum Disorder. Now these qualities appear unexpectedly transform. In different cases
individuals may acquire them. The children who are diagnosed from autism may pay more video
games and able to study for a long time. They usually become addicted to video games.

1.5 IS AUTISM ORDINARY IN TWINS?

Yes! autism is ordinary in twins. In investigation of twins, autism have powerful or solid
connection in twins like if one twin has mental imbalance the other will probably going to have
chemical imbalance as expected to 36 to 95 percent of the time as per the NINDS. In non-
identical twin 31 percent become affected as compared to identical twins.

Adults or children with mental imbalance may likewise experience changes in key territories of
their minds that affect their discourse and conduct. Ecological variables may likewise assume a
job in the advancement of ASD, in spite of the fact that specialists have not yet affirmed a
connection.

Be that as it may, analysts do realize that some supposed causes, for example, child rearing
practices, don't cause autism. It is predicted that autism is found more in boys as compared to
girls. The sufferers sense issue in interacting with others. They also face troubles whilst shifting
from one interest to different and get upset with a daily routine. They react disproportionately in
day to day affairs and act suddenly and furiously. They often run away
2. Introduction to “Autism Emo-Recognition Application":

2.1 About “Autism Emo-Recognition application”

Autism Emotion Recognition App is an application software designed to help children with
autism spectrum disorder. This application deals with the problem of facial expressions and
emotions recognition faced by the autistic individuals as it is difficult for them to recognize other
people’s emotions. Autism Emo Recognition app will help individuals with autism to recognize
emotions, learn the reason why people show those emotions and also improve the speed of
recognizing these emotions. The cure of this type of syndrome have not been discovered yet but
however these individuals can be trained to understand these emotions to some extent as some
studies suggest that individuals with autism become more adept at recognizing basic, prototypic
emotional expressions as they become older indicating to the fact that if they practice or
experience a particular emotion again and again, they began to recognize it. Emotions that are
covered in this application are:

● Happy
● Sad
● Excited
● Disgusted
● Fear
● Shock

Autism Emo Recognition application is divided into various levels ranging from easier emotions
to harder ones as it has been discovered that many autistic children become capable of
understanding basic emotions (such as happy, sad) but other subtle emotions are hard to
recognize. So, this application will consist of the following levels.
As well as in order to get better results and outcomes real human faces pictures are used to create
a better link to real life which makes it easier for the autistic individuals to create a better
understanding of real human emotions and facial expressions.

As this application is especially built for autistic individuals that live in Pakistan and regarding
the fact that 75% of Pakistan’s population lives in villages and usually are not able to speak
English. We have added both Urdu and English language to the application’s interface which
makes it much easier for them to comfortably enjoy this game and get trained in recognizing
skills, gradually.

2.2 LEVELS:

Autism Emo Recognition App is divided into two sections regarding the complexity of the emotions:

1. Easy:
This level will consist of basic emotions (i.e. Happy, Sad, Excited,
etc.)
.

2. Hard:
Harder emotions (like frustrated, anxious, shock etc.) will be covered
in this level.

2.3 Tools and Techniques:

Technologies:
● HTML 5
● CSS 3
● Vanilla JavaScript
Frameworks:
● Bootstrap
● jQuery

Database:
● MySQL

Tools:
● Sublime text
● GIT

3. PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Communicating with others and talking to express ourselves is one of the most enjoyable
things in human-world. Getting exposure to various things is a necessity of human beings and
someone who is not able to understand the gestures of others and how people around him/her
feel is called an autistic individual. Autistic individuals can be taught explicitly that what a
particular expression means and then practice these skills in their daily life. This can be done
with the help of different software applications that could train them to develop such skills.
4. Literature review:

4.1 HOW ADULTS OR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM ARE TREATED IN PAKISTAN?

About 30 percent of children in Pakistan with Autism Spectrum Disorder are bitterly by families,
relatives and strangers.

But 70% of people with autism are not ruthlessly treated by their families. Their families help
them and do whatever they can do for their child. According to investigation there was a child
who was seven years old. He started doing things which results in injury e.g. he usually touched
fire. He also got frustrated If food is not served to him at times. Her mother said that whenever
they went to relatives, they become angry because of abnormal attitude of his son. He also
started avoiding eye contact with others and started playing so many video games. But his family
always supported him.

Whereas in some parts of Pakistan children are ruthlessly treated. In early times, they parents
used to lock them in a room thinking he or she is processed by some evil spirit or ghost. And
sometimes even worse acts are done to those whom parents die. They were killed badly without
any reason.

4.2 HOW PEOPLE ESPECIALLY WOMEN WITH AUTISM TREATED OUTSIDE

PAKISTAN?
According to authors women outside Pakistan are bitterly treated by strangers. According to
investigation a girl name Alexis Wineman is the principal lady with autism started to take an
interest in the Miss America rivalry. Alexis was in center school when authoritatively determined
to have PDD-NOS (Inescapable Formative Issue Not Generally Indicated), however felt
"unique" since the beginning. As she got more seasoned, she battled with a portion of the
difficulties that accompany having ASD, for example, a discourse hindrance, correspondence
challenges, and being sensitive to noise, and other tactile related issues. Alexis likewise needed
to manage harassing that happened due to her disparities. Luckily, her family has consistently
been a wellspring of solidarity and motivation for her. But the strangers always ruthless and
merciless to her.

4.3 Foregoing projects

Android and ios applications that deals with different autism disorders are present on app stores
including “Autism Emotion app” but major drawbacks of such apps are that many of them are only for
iOS devices and also only provide interface in English language whereas Autism Emo Recognition App is
a web application that can be opened with any computer-device. However, these applications have shown
that such techniques have been proven to be beneficial in helping children facing ASD. Apps dealing with
other various autism issues are also present like Model me going places that helps autistic children to
navigate challenging locations in the community. Each location contains a photo slideshow of children
modeling appropriate behavior.

4.4 Literature gap

The fact that approximately 1 in 59 children of the whole world are diagnosed Autistic
and a rough estimate would suggest that there are 1.7 million children with the condition
considering the country’s birth rate into account, thousands are added to this figure every
year. Rate of Autism disorder is higher in Pakistan and yet there is little awareness
relating to this disorder.

Dr Syed Hashim Raza, a consultant specialist in neurodevelopment and neurodisability at the

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) said the vast majority of autistic children present
in Pakistan go undiagnosed or labelled under “mental retardation as an unprecedented sum of
doctors are unaware and have difficulty contemplating what this neurological condition is
including sadly pediatrician.”
“Thus, almost all rural based and some urban based family’s resort to traditional healers or
religious pairs and if that doesn’t suffice then seclusion or even being chained is the only
means of dealing with the issue at hand,” he said.

People of Pakistan lack awareness of autism and thus a lot of children remain un-aided and are
tortured in mental and physical ways due to the less knowledge of autism. Many children are
also held back due to the reason that they don't know English language and are not able to
access autism applications in order to train their learning skills.

Therefore, such apps that are understandable by people of Pakistan are required. Autism Emo
Recognition Application is designed to primarily help children of Pakistan diagnosed with such
disorder. The interface language of this app is both "Urdu" and "English" which means that
75% of the population of Pakistan that lives in villages will be able to understand and use it as it
is in their native language. All the instructions and commands will be provided in Urdu and
English.

Another edge of this app is that it tracks the learning outcomes of the user’s ability and a weekly
record will be shown that will report the percentage rate of learning skills that have been
improved in the autistic child during a particular week. This feature will work on the results of
quizzes held from time to time within the app.
5. Impact of Application:
The app will bring many benefits to the patients diagnosed with autism. Our app will give them
an opportunity to utilize it anytime they want like in schools and shopping malls.

Our app will have great impact on them as they will motivate them and help them to stand in the
world with respect. This app will increase their focus and attention on different things as well.

By utilizing the application, they can be restored. Young men with mental imbalance range issue
typically prefer to mess around so by giving rounds or levels of their decision they will have
enthusiasm for our applications so they can appreciate and figure out how to. By along these
lines with entry of time they will be restored soon.

By showing emojis faces with different emotions such as happy and sad in our app they will be
able to recognize the expressions of people and even with passage of time they can eye to eye
contact with people as children with autism consistently have issues in such things.

Our application will likewise assist them with visualizing the words. Our games in application
won't just encourages them to fix however they in future they will likewise ready to keep up their
exchanges with people and converse with them like ordinary individuals use to

This treatment will assist them with standing on the planet with nobility even they are
determining to have autism. With our application they won't be completely treated however they
be 60% relieved. Our application will help them to recognize the expressions of their families,
friends and even strangers. Instead of frustrating they will be able to converse with people and
can live a happy life.

Bringing up a kid with a mental imbalance range issue (ASD) can be a mind-boggling
knowledge for guardians and families. The unavoidable and serious shortages frequently present
in kids with ASD are related with a plenty of troubles in guardians. Our app will also help
parents who are taking a lot of stress because of their children disorder as they do not their
children to left behind as compare to others. Our app can cure them to some extent which can
assist parents.
By showing them emojis or faces in our application, this can increase consideration and positive
feelings in autistic children as by finishing every one of the degrees of our application they will
be able to communicate with individuals and can easily recognize their expressions which will be
appeared by individuals to them while talking

Autistic children cannot attend the same class as non-autistic children attend. As a result, they
need special schools. Different schools, mentors, and instructors can cost families a few hundred
dollars for each month—or thousands every year. Our app can save their money to some extent.

They can be 60% cure and by our app they will be able recognize expressions. By this way they
can even talk without hesitation. This is a cheap way and can available to the places where
internet is present

By our app we can help these courageous and strong children to communicate with people
without any hesitation. Autism Emo Recognition Application can show them outward
appearances so that they can also practice it in their daily life which is very important.
6. Limitations:

● It is to clarify that Autism Emo recognition app does NOT provide any type
of diagnosis or test. Perhaps it can only be used to enhance the skills of autistic
children that are already been diagnosed with such disorder, in recognizing
emotions and facial expressions of the people around them.

● As any cure to this disorder have not been explored yet it is important to
confirm that this app also DOES NOT cure autism completely but just train the
user for the enhancement of his/her skills to understand others emotions.
