OBJECTVES:

To determine the relative density of cohesionless free-draining soils and

provides well defined results on soils that do not respond well to conventional
moisture-density impact compaction testing.

MATERIALS AND APPARATUS:

1.) RELATIVE DENSITY APPARATUS

used to determine the relative density of free-draining soils.

 VIBRATORY TABLE
A vibrating table is used to aid the compaction of materials in containers,
boxes, and bulk bags. The vibrating action helps materials and products nest
closely and settle to reduce product volume to a minimum.

 Relative Density Mold are used Relative Density Gauge in computing volume
change of granular soils. The molds are made of cast aluminum and equipped
with carrying handles and guide brackets, and come complete with detachable
guide sleeve with clamp assembly, surcharge base plate with removable handle,
and surcharge weight with handle.
 DIAL GAUGE OR DIAL INDICATOR
Dial indicator is a kind of measuring tool which changes the linear
displacement of spindle into the angular displacement of indicator with the help
of gear rack and gear drive. It’s mainly used to measure the geometric tolerance
and dimensions of work piece, or used as a part of some measuring devices.

 DIAL INDICATOR HOLDER

Use to hold the Dial indicator.

2.) SAND CONE DENSITY APPARATUS

Used for determination of the insitu (in-place) density of soils. The apparatus is
restricted to tests in soils containing particles not larger than 2" (50.8 mm) in diameter.
The Sand Density Cone consists of a double cone assembly with a brass valve and comes
supplied with a one-gallon (4,000 cm3) capacity sand jug.

3.) WEIGHING SCALE

Used for the determination of weight of the soil.
4.) SMALL SHOVEL
Used for digging holes and breaking up clumps of soil.

5.) OPEN WRENCH

A wrench or spanner is a tool used to provide grip and mechanical advantage in
applying torque to turn objects - usually rotary fasteners, such as nuts and bolts - or keep
them from turning.

6.) RUBBER MALLET

A tool with a rubber, leather, or plastic head, used to strike a surface without
damaging it.
7.) SAND
A loose granular material that results from the disintegration of
rocks, consist of particles smaller than gravel but coarser than silt. It is
used for determining the In-place density.

8.) LABORATORY OVEN

Laboratory ovens are ovens for high-forced volume thermal convection applications.
These ovens generally provide uniform temperatures throughout. It is used for removing the
moisture content.
