Curve
Tracing
Symmetry about x-axis: If all the powers of 'y' in the
1. equation are even then the curve is symmetrical about
the x-axis.
E.g. : x2 + y2 = a2
Symmetry about both axis: If the equation of curve remains
4. unchanged by interchanging ‘x’ and ‘y’ then the curve is
symmetric about the line y=x.
E.g. : x3 + y3 = 3axy
Symmetry in opposite quadrants: If the equation of the curve
5. remains unaltered when 'x' and 'y' are replaced by ‘-x’ and ‘-y’
respectively, then there is symmetry in opposite quadrants.
A. 18 𝜋 B. 27 𝜋
C. 36 𝜋 D. 45 𝜋
Example Let f(x) = Maximum {x2, (1-x)2, 2x(1-x)}, where 0 < x < 1.
Determine the area of the region bounded by the curves y = f(x),
x-axis, x = 0 and x = 1.
