The study of Policarpio (2012) was similar to the present study.

They were parallel in

terms of identifying the status of implementation of curricular programs. The previous study
focused on the implementation of school-community programs while the present study aimed to
pinpoint the preparedness of secondary school in the implementation of senior high school of the
K to 12 curriculum. They also identified the problems encountered in the implementation of the
program. The two studies differed in terms of programs described.

Rivers (2011) evaluated the “Implementation of the Integrated School health and
Nutrition Program (ISHNP) in the Department of Education, Schools Division of Tarlac
Province during the school years: 2008-2009, 2009-2010, and 2010-2011. The CIPP evaluation
model was used in the study. Questionnaire, documentary analysis interview and observation
were used in the data gathering. Documents that were available such as records and data from the
Basic Education Information System (BEIS) DedEd memoranda and others were used as sources
of data. Tables were utilized to analyze the data. The researcher found out that malnutriotion was
one of the reasons why leaners had poor academic performance.

Gaviola (2011) in her study entitled “Implementation of the Physical Education

Program or Private Higher Education Institution in Tarlac City” which included attainment of the
objectives, administration of the program, delivery system, and outcome, resources utilized as to
human and non-human, and the problems encountered in the implementation of the physical
education program. The results of the study were the bases for the proposed action plan for the
physical education program. The stud used the questionnaire to gather the needed data.

The study of Gaviola (2011) and the present study were similar. They both identified
the implementation status of curricular programs. Gaviola (2011) evaluated the implementation
of the physical education program of private higher institution and the present study described
the preparedness of secondary schools in the implementation of senior high school of the K to 12
curriculum.

In the study of Valencia (2002) entitled “Readiness of General High Schools in the
Implementation of Career Pathway Programs in Technology and Livelihood Education in Tarlac
City” aimed to answer the following problems : (1) How ready are the schools in the
implementation of career pathway programs in terms of administration. Available resources,
human resources, non-human resources and instruction?: (2) in what areas are the schools most
ready and last ready?: (3) What are the implications of the findings to Technology and
Livelihood Education?
Three components were considered in determining the readiness of the schools.
These were the administrators, the teachers of TLE and their instructions.

The administrators were asked about their awareness of the programs as well as the
activities they had done relative to the implementation of the programs. They were also asked on
the availability of the facilities.

The result of the study showed that the school administration were fully aware of
the career pathway programs in TLE. They were provided with guidelines and memoranda and
they attended seminars, trainings and workshops relevant to these programs. The TLE teachers
were qualified to teach technology since in the course specialization was TLE. The material
resources adequately available in the schools were the facilities, equipment and tools, but most
tools were not functional.

The previous study was similar to the present because both described the
implementation of the senior high school K to 12 curriculum. However, the previous study
concentrated on the readiness of general high schools in the implementation of career pathway
programs in Technology and Livelihood Education while the present stud focused on the
influences that affect students in choosing a track and strand in senior high school.

Bautista (1997), stated the greatest barrier among students pursuing their cancer
and having command over their life is the lack of in – depth knowledge of the said cancer. In
addition, knowledge is required to make valid cancer preferences.

Further he stated that elementary education provides a foundation for formal

education.it is when high school where students starts to feel tangibly about cancer preferences.
He cited Castillo who stressed the redirection and guidance of high school youth because; it is in
that stage where skill, capacities and decisions are developed. The youth should get a thorough
picture of their aspirations and expectations.

Personal interests, abilities, skills, and values are the most influential factors In
coming to a chosen occupation by the participants according to Pabiton (2007). These imply that
like other graduating students in high school, the participants seemed to have chosen occupation.
She also noted that the students will be given all the chances to learn and develop the skill and
attitudes required for various occupations. She recommends that career counselors could give
more emphasis on this environmental factor during individual and small group career counseling.
The researcher reviewed both local and foreign studies that were accessible to
shed clarity and strengthen the arrangement of theoretical structure of the present study. All these
studies, in whole or in part, discussed the implementation of different curricular programs. Thus,
they differed in the aspect and scope in terms of the influences to the students’ choice of a track
and a strand in senior high school.
